Charlotte Qubeck Obituary
QUBECK Charlotte J. Qubeck, age 89 of East Otis, Mass., beloved wife for 68 years of Charles H. Qubeck, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Mrs. Qubeck was born in Stratford, August 6, 1918 to the late Peter and Charlotte Schlaeter Allen and was a Stratford resident for many years prior to moving to Wolcott, where she resided for 20 years and then moved to E. Otis, Mass. where she has spent the last 20 years. Mrs. Qubeck was a graduate of Port Chester High School and received training in nursing at the Hospital & Home for Crippled Children in Newark, N.J. After her marriage to Charles, her life was devoted, along with a group of parents, to form what was then known as The Parents & Friends of Mentally Retarded Children and now known as The Kennedy Center. Both Charlotte and her husband took part in the research of the hardly recognized condition of PKU. Along with Dr. Dinan and Dr. Jervis of Ledgeworth Village, N.Y. and the staff of the Southbury Training School, legislation was passed to have all children born in CT to be tested upon birth for this condition and now is tested nationwide on all babies, since early detection is crucial for the normal and happy development of babies born with this condition. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Charles, include a son, Allen Qubeck and his wife, Janet of Otis, Mass.; a daughter, Janet Qubeck Mordino and her husband, Al Jr. of Wolcott; a sister, Doris Rollins of Rockport, Mass.; five grandchildren, Christopher Qubeck, Air Force T Sgt and his wife, Amy of Buzzards Bay, Mass., Carolyn Qubeck of Austin, Texas, Al Mordino III and his wife, Megan Conrod of Terryville, Jennifer Mordino and Christa Mordino, both of Wolcott; a great-granddaughter, Aubree Mordino of Terryville; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Qubeck was predeceased by a son, Charles Qubeck. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford with interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Milford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Kennedy Center in Mrs. Qubeck's memory. The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford is in charge of arrangements.
