Claudia Granata Obituary
Claudia Dinan Granata MD, age 58 of Orange, the beloved wife of Attilio V. Granata, MD, died Thursday July 24, 2014 in her residence. Claudia was born in Bridgeport and was the daughter of Althea and the late Vincent Dinan. She was a 1976 graduate of Smith College and a 1980 graduate of the Yale School of Medicine. She served her internship and residency from 1980 until 1983 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She was in private practice with Pulmonary Associates of New Haven and was on the medical staff of both Yale New Haven Hospital and St. Raphael Hospital. After raising her children, she taught middle school mathematics at the Foote School in New Haven. Claudia's family was the center of her life; she enjoyed knitting, cooking, playing the piano, reading, and playing with her beloved dogs. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children: Vincent M., Christopher J., Timothy D., and Elizabeth C. Granata. She also leaves behind her mother, Althea Dinan, her sister, Althea Dinan II, and her sister's husband, Thomas O'Connor. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Wednesday, July 30, at 11:00 am at the St. Thomas More Chapel at Yale for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the American Lung Association at www.lung.org or the Breakthrough Collaborative at www.breakthroughcollaborative.org.

Dear Attilio and Family,
I remember meeting Claudia when we were taking our kids to Montessori down in Westville, CT. Claudia was a gentle, kind, loving, and intelligent woman whom I liked very much from the start. She was soft spoken, a great listener, and well-worth listening to when she had something to say. We spent time together in our homes and we went out a couple of times for dinner with our husbands. She dearly loved her family and put every bit of her thoughtful determination for creating a life together for their highest good. She was a caring friend and I miss her.
I was deeply saddened to hear of her death and it left a wound in my heart where Claudia belonged.
I am so, so sorry guys, that her loss still seems raw to you. I pray that you will find peace knowing that she is loved and missed by many of us.

Dear Dr. Granata and Family: Words cannot express our sadness and shock on the untimely death of Claudia. We remember meeting you and Claudia when Chris and Alex were freshman on the Bowdoin Swim Team. We had many wonderful conversations and spent many hours sitting by the pool cheering for our "boys". We all were so pleased that you were able to attend the graduation party and we could visit with you all. Dear Dr. Granata and family, I can hardly find the words to express how shocked and saddened I am at this untimely and tragic loss. Claudia was a delight to know and the singularly most lovely student to ever grace my piano bench. I will not soon forget her.

I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Dinan briefly many years ago when my mom was in the ER, a week after her discharge from over 6 weeks in the hospital after the removal of her lung because of lung cancer. She was not Dr. Dinan's patient, but she was called in that night, and her kindness and compassion to my mom and I during such a frightening time, was something I've remembered all these years.
