David Burs Obituary
David E. Burs, 58 of Stratford entered eternal rest Monday, June 5, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Montgomery, WV to the late Lee Curtis and Janice Crowder Burs, David has been a life-long resident of Stratford. David was a retired Stratford Police Sergeant with thirty years of service. While on the police force he served as a Law Enforcement Instructor and a Supervising FTO; he was also a NRA Firearms master instructor. He earned a PHD in Sports Medical Science from NYU. David was a long-term substitute teacher at Bullard Havens Technical High School, CT, a former adjunct professor at CT Post College and professor at Sanford Brown College. There are so many other achievements and awards received by David that are to numerous to list. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Danielle (Ryan) Hand of Washington, DC and Rachel Burs of IL; six brothers, William Burs of Washington, DC, Lee Burs of MD, Daniel Burs of VA, Dwayne Burs of Norwalk, Dwight Burs of MA and Derek Burs of NY; five sisters, Mamie Moore and Lillian Skeet of FL, Carolyn Burs of Washington, DC, Sharon Burs-Howard of VA and Anna Burs of OH; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, 2017, 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Stratford, 1301 Stratford Ave., Stratford, with Dr. William B. Sutton, III, pastor, officiating. Interment will be private. Friends are invite to the viewing Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the church. See www.mortonsmorutary.com.

I was blessed to meed Dave in 1978 at Al's Automotive on Stratford ave. Dave drove a blue 69 Camaro and was in college.. My very first impression of Dave was ..he is a cool guy.. He will be missed and God bless his family for such a loss.

My Deepest condolences to Dave's family. i knew Dave from elementary school through high school. I left the area and after many many years we stopped into Surf Package. I will always remember the bear hug and the fact he recognized me from the moment i walked in the door. Wow what a wonderful man and we were all truly blessed to have known him. SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE PASSING OF DAVE MY HUSBAND AND I DID NOT KNOW HE PASSED. WE REMEMBER HIM OVER THE YEAR WHEN WE LIVED IN STRATFORD AND THE CAR CRUISE DAYS. HE WAS A GOOD HUMANTARIAN AND AND ALL AROUND GREAT GUY. REST IN PEACE DAVE .

I'm sad to hear of Dave's passing. He was a great friend. When I was working at XtraMart and he was on patrol, he would stop in often to check in me. He had a great heart and smile and was a genuinely nice guy.

My condolences go out to the Burs family. I met Dave about twenty years ago through a mutual friend. His voluminous interests and activities made one wonder where he found the time and energy. Dave was highly educated yet down to earth and cared for his fellow man, serving and protecting as a Police Officer. As an instructor and martial artist, he taught many the value of self respect and respect for others. In his short time on earth he accomplished more than many dream of. It was a pleasure to share this slot in time with him.

I have not seen David in many years.
Still it brings me great sadness to hear of his passing.
I went to Johnson & Stratford High with him.
He was sweet and kind. He was one of those rare people that touched so many lives, and will truly be missed.
My prayers go out to his family and friends.
I consider myself honored to have known him.

Sympathy to all the Burs family. Dave was so giving to all. He worked with Stratford Eagles Squadron Civil Air Patrol teaching martial arts and counseling the cadets. He was both gentle and tough - just what we need in an officer of the law. God bless you, David, and may we meet again.

I was saddened to hear of Dave's passing. He was truly a great human being. I was just a teenager when I first met Dave. He was always so encouraging to me and I felt he was always genuinely happy to see me. He always had a smile on his face and was ready to help someone. Many years ago, I was Dave's listing agent on a multi-family home he owned in Stratford. At the end of the listing agreement, the house had not sold and he decided to go with another realtor. Several months later, I was pulled over by a Stratford police officer at the corner of Sherwood Place and South Avenue. I was certain I had stopped at the stop sign and signaled as I made the turn onto South Avenue. Out of the police car came David. He said, "I pulled you over to tell you that I never should have listed the house with someone else after you worked so hard on it. So I wanted to say that to you and give you a small token of my appreciation." It was a $100 bill. That will be a chapter in my book!! May he rest in peace! He was a wonderful person who will never be forgotten!

I hadn't seen David since the 80s when I moved to CA. We played football together in high school and I remember his calm demeanor and craft of humor. God bless always. A great guy. May you rest in peace.

Mr Burs was a delight to have as a patient. He brought such an amazing attitude to everything he did. We here at Hewitt Health are deeply saddened by this news. May he find eternal peace and may his family find some comfort in their time of need.

My Condolences to the Burs Family and Friends, My Heart goes out to his family, Children and Siblings during this difficult time. I meet David through my mother who also worked for the Police dept. We became great friends and I always admired him. He was great with all from infant to elderly and an inspiration to the teenagers. He served the Town of Stratford and Community with Pride and gave all he had back to the community. He was more than an officer he mentored the children, he helped the elderly and watch out for all. He truly loved his community and stayed within it to make it a better place. Stratford has loss a great man with his passing..May his legacy of his Pride for Stratford, The Police dept and serving to help all be a force all Stratford Residents look up to. David was a gentle man with a big heart...he even watched my daughter and stopped by to make sure we were ok from time to time.. Many Great memories of David from the Police Dept, Seeing him at the Cricket and Stopping by my parents home.
