David Hamilton
David Hamilton 92 passed away on February 4, 2018 at his home in North Port, FL, previously from Bridgeport and Milford, CT. He was predeceased in death by his wife Mary in 2011; they were married for 64 years.
A memorial mass will be held at San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port on Monday February 26, 2018 at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of life held at the Amvets post 312, 7050 Chancellor Blvd, North Port, FL.
David received his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1945; he and Mary married in September of 1946. In 1961 they moved to Milford CT where he began a job at Warner Lambert, at that time known as Shick where he began his career in quality control; David worked his way up to a supervisory position by his early retirement in 1987. In 1988 he and his wife began traveling to Florida for the winter months when they found Holiday Park in North Port and bought their first Florida residence where they settled and enjoyed their retirement.
They sold their CT home and became full time residents of Holiday Park in 2006. David volunteered as a driver for the FISH organization and then the North Port Library book store until 2011. He enjoyed swimming, he could be found swimming in the pool every morning, on Friday nights he'd be with friends listening to karaoke. He enjoyed the beauty of nature, music, dancing, theater, traveling, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a lifelong member at the Amvets and the VFW, he was also a member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, and the Elks.
He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Rita Hamilton of Venice FL, Christine Kelley of North Port FL, Mary Lynn Hamilton-Milford and husband Rob of Waterbury CT; his grandchildren Paula Jones, Shawn Greenhouse, Peter Greenhouse, Daniel Greenhouse, David Kelley, Katelyn Axten, Daniel Axten and a step granddaughter Heidi Norton.
David has 8 great-grandchildren, Nicole Geri, Randy Greenhouse, Chelsea Kelley, David James (DJ) Kelley, Alex Lipka, Madelyn Greenhouse, Tyler Greenhouse, Jacob Greenhouse and a step great-granddaughter Alyssa Maile.
David is survived by a sister, Louise Cole. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, other extended family members and his many friends. He is preceded in death by his brother William (Billy) Hamilton and a sister Marie Hamilton, extended family and friends.
