Deborah Callahan Obituary

CALLAHAN Deborah Ann Callahan, age 56, of Bridgeport, died at home in the loving presence of her husband, Francis, on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, following a courageous battle against ovarian cancer. She was cared for during her last days by her devoted mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. William Edgar, her husband, and the dedicated nurses and therapists of VNS of Connecticut, Genox Homecare, and Collins, IV Care. Debby was born in St. Paul, Minn., and lived most of her childhood in Rochester, Minn. (She did not miss the Minnesota winters, but she did enjoy reminiscing about them via A Prairie Home Companion radio Show!) After raising her sons, William and Christopher Long, with their father, Frank Long, Debby graduated from Gibbs College and began a career as a certified nursing assistant at Homestead Nursing Home, Stamford. In 2000, she joined Fairfield Public Schools as a paraprofessional in special education at Fairfield Warde High School where she was revered by students and faculty. Debby is survived by her husband, sons, parents and brother, Steven and his wife, Deborah; niece, Kensey; step-children, Kevin, Cara and Connor Callahan; and their mother and friend, Dr. Carol Callahan, Gordon, and Kaye Jones; aunt and uncle; her students and colleagues at Fairfield Warde High School; and her friends at First Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 10 a.m. with a reception following. All who knew and loved Debby are invited to come and celebrate her life. The family requests that donations in her honor be directed to St. Vincent-s Medical Center-s Swim Across the Sound Foundation and to VNS of Connecticut-s Hospice at Home.

We are so sorry to hear the news about Debby. She was a wonderful lady and we will especially remember her for the lovely letter she wrote to us about our mom when she was ill. We still have it. Please extend our sincere condolences to her family for us.
