Donald Farrar Obituary

FARRAR Donald Eugene Farrar, age 77, of Trumbull. That good-natured and friendly gentleman who seemed to know everybody and whom everybody seemed to love passed peacefully into God's arms in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife, daughters and sister on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 after an illness of some little time. He was an industrious and in every other way a good citizen with a cheery word for all and ready and willing at all times to do some kindness or good turn for any needing it. All called him friend and his presence in the community will be greatly missed. Donald Eugene Farrar was born in Trumbull, September 12, 1927, to the well known Trumbull native Samuel Farrar and Agnes Dunbar Farrar of New Milford. He was a member of the North East Coastal Schaghticoke Indian Nation (son of a chief's daughter and brother of a chief). He attended Long Hill Elementary and Bassick High. He served in the Air Force from 1946-1948 and received a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport in 1952 where he was a member of Beta Alpha accounting fraternity. He received his certification as a public accountant in 1959 becoming the first black CPA in the state of Connecticut and the 51st in the country. He subsequently joined the firm of Stern & Stern of Bridgeport as a partner. In 1996, he and another partner, Joseph P. Germain, formed the firm of Farrar, Germain (& Griffin) with offices in Bridgeport and Fairfield. In 1991, he established the solo practice of Donald E. Farrar, CPA with offices in Monroe. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the NAACP, the University of Bridgeport Alumni Advisory committee, the American, Connecticut and Bridgeport societies of CPAs, the National Association of Accountants, as well as the Private Industry Foundation and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. He served on the board of directors of Hall Neighborhood House, the Visiting Nurses Association, the Urban Coalition for Greater Bridgeport (as well as treasurer), the YMCA, the Bridgeport Economic Development Company and on the board of trustees of Mechanics & Farmers Savings Bank and the YWCA. He is survived by his wife, the former Janet Randall of Bridgewater; his two daughters, Donajen Farrar and Susan Sinclair; his sister, Dorothy Powell, and her son, Mark Powell; and his grandson, and great-grandson, Jumoke and Djani Davis; respectively as well as numerous other relatives. A Memorial Service will be held on January 8, 2005 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 401 Newfield Avenue, in Bridgeport. Arrangements in care of Mortons Mortuary, 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport.

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?

And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
