Douglas E. Hoffman (68) passed away in his home Wednesday, July 5, 2017 after a long battle with CoPD. Doug as he was known to many, was born November 7, 1948 in Bridgeport Hospital to Jean & Harold Hoffman. He spent his early youth through high school graduation in Stratford. After high school, he joined the Navy and served his country. Upon his return, he joined the workforce of the US Baird, Corp. where he met his beloved wife, Ruth. He spent many years serving the needs of others at Masonic Care in Newtown. Doug was passionate about music, the Mets and the Dallas Cowboys along with movies of all genres. He is survived by his daughter, Cherie H. Niatopsky with her husband Martin, his grandchildren Deirdre, Joseph, Alexander, Laura and Mary with her husband Adam, and his great-grandchildren TJ & Mason. He is also survived by his sister JoAnn Fogarty and her husband Tom, his brother Mark and his brother Hal along with several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many friends that he loved. He also leaves behind two cats Ruff and Dude. A memorial of Doug's life will be held at Tuesday, July 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Thrive Church, 284 Town Hill Rd., Terryville, CT 06786. A reception is immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Season's Hospice, 1579 Straitsturnpike, Middlebury, CT 06762. Season's lovingly cared for Doug in his last weeks.
