Edmund Chappa Obituary

CHAPPA Edmund J. Chappa, age 74, of Westport, husband of Susan M. Chappa, passed away Wednesday afternoon at home in the company of his family. Mr. Chappa was born May 25, 1934 at home in Saugatuck, son of William J. and Frances (Reitano) Chappa and has been a life long resident of Westport. Prior to retiring May 1999, Mr. Chappa was employed as a Sales Manager for Kanthal Corporation in Bethel, Connecticut for 40 years. He is a 1956 graduate of Fordum University where he attended on a full scholarship for football. He was an avid gardener, growing vegetables and perennial flowers. He also loved working in his woodworking shop. A good catholic, Mr. Chappa was a former member of the Stephen Ministry. He was a strong family person who was at peace when spending time with his family. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Edmund J. Chapp Jr. and his wife, Aimee of Oxford, Chris J. Chappa of West Haven; three daughters, Cheryl Ann Chappa, DVM and her husband, Matt Hanninger of New Fairfield, Barbara Ann Piccolo and her husband, Joseph of Fairfield, and Frances Ann Chappa-Rivera and her husband Jimmy of Shelton; one brother, William J. Chappa and his wife, Mary of Shelton; eight grandchildren, Chloe, Edmund III, Thomas, Jesse, Kimberly, Allyson, Joseph Jr., and Giovanni and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends are invited to attend the funeral Saturday, 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home and 10 a.m. in Saint Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Rd., Westport, CT. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery Kings Highway N., Westport, CT. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. E., Westport is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Children's Fund or St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memohis, TN 38105.
