Edward Matto Obituary
Edward A. Matto, 97, of Fairfield passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce Smelter Matto. Edward was born in Bridgeport to the late Augustus and Marie Matto.
Ed was a proud WWII veteran. He taught for many years at Tomlinson Jr. High and later was a substitute teacher at Christian Heritage School. He is survived by his daughter Janice Lesko, son Mark (Patti) Matto, granddaughter Rebecca (James) Haugh and great-grandsons Ben and Tom Haugh.
Burial with military honors will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Fairfield, 65 Church Hill Road, Fairfield Complete obituary at www.spearmillerfuneralhome.com

Mr Matto was my homeroom teacher and Social Study teacher at Tomlinson JR high in the 70's. He was a kind and caring man. He will be missed. One of my favorite memory of him is between classes. He would stand outside his door and monitoring the stairway. Telling the students to slow down. With a little smile, say "What's your hurry?" May God comfort your family with the loss of this kind man.

Ed and I taught many years at Tomlinson, in fact for several years my room was next to his. He was quiet, but interesting. I remember attending your mom´s service, however I have a wedding to go to tomorrow. I will be thinking of you and Ed.
