Edward Mulligan Obituary

MULLIGAN Edward M. Mulligan, age 83, of Cobble Road, Salisbury, formerly of Bridgeport and Hilton Head, S. C., died Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Noble Horizon in Salisbury. He was the husband of the late Margaret Mary (Thaler) Mulligan, who passed on October 9, 2002. He was born in Bridgeport on July 7, 1920 son of the late Patrick and Delia Agnes (McHale) Mulligan. Mr. Mulligan retired as the vice president of public relations for the former Connecticut National Bank in Bridgeport. He was employed at the bank from 1973 until 1986. Prior to that he had been employed in the same capacity as vice president of public relations for the Southern Connecticut Gas Co. of Bridgeport from 1959 to 1973. Mr. Mulligan also worked as a Newspaper reporter for the Bridgeport Post. The same paper that he had delivered as a paper boy in his youth. Educated in the Bridgeport School System as Sacred Heart and Bassick High School. Mr. Mulligan graduated from Manhattan College. He served his country in World War II serving in the U. S. Army and holding the rank of Lt. Colonel while on duty in the Pacific. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in North Canaan, and a long time member of the Knight’s of Columbus Park City Council of Bridgeport. He was a member of the Rotary Club and also the Algonquin Club which he was the author of the charter. He was also a member of the University Club of Hartford and was the manager of the Marina Baseball Club. Mr. Mulligan is survived by his children: Eileen Mulligan of Lakeville, Margaret Mary Mulligan of Maura , N.M., Joseph Mulligan of Salisbury, Christine Firella of Fairfield, Catherine Trichka of Bridgeport and Edward Mulligan of Black Rock; his sister, Alice L Mulligan of Black Rock; six grandchildren, Padharlic, Alalla and Mollee Mulligan, all of Salisbury, Catherine Jones of Barre, Vt., Lucas Jones of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Nicholas Firella of Fairfield; and a great-granddaughter, Isabel Jones of Barre, Vt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2003, in St. Joseph’s Church, Main Street, North Canaan, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salisbury, at a later date. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be sent to Noble Horizons, 17 Cobble Road, Salisbury, CT 06068 or to the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service, Salisbury, CT 06068. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home, 118 Main Street, North Canaan, CT 06018. Everyone is invited to join the Mulligan family at a reception to be held at Noble Horizons, 17 Cobble Road, Salisbury, immediately following the Mass.
