Frederick Becton Condit
Frederick Becton Condit, age 78, of Flagler Beach, FL and Milford, CT, passed away on May 22, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital following a valiant fight with Parkinson's Disease.
Rick was born on May 30, 1946, in Orange, NJ and was the elder son of the late Janet Becton and Orland E. Condit. He grew up in Montclair, NJ and graduated from Montclair High School in 1964. He attended Lafayette College, graduating with "The Great Class of 1968," earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Rick was a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity and participated in ROTC. He was a member of the lacrosse, soccer, and ice hockey teams.
Upon graduation, Rick began his engineering career at Norden Systems in Norwalk, CT. He was called into active duty in 1969 and served at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and the Korean DMZ. Rick was honorably discharged in 1971 as a First Lieutenant, returning stateside to Connecticut. He went back to Norden and worked on the radar system for the F-15 while obtaining a master's degree in communications at Fairfield University.
In 1973, he began his consulting career with EDS, which led to his continued success at Price Waterhouse and ISS in New York City. He left consulting in 1987 to join The Ryland Group in Columbia, MD as the Head of Systems and Technology. Rick ended his career as a Managing Director of Imprima Management Services in Stamford, CT. Throughout his career, he was respected for his technology prowess, his leadership, and teamwork. He really loved computer processing and kept up with the progress until a few years ago. In his heart, he still preferred "machine" code so he could get to the guts of the processor.
Rick had a few great loves, most importantly, his four children. He developed a special and unique bond with each of them. And there were constants: "Sweet Baby James," tools, and sweatshirts.
Rick had a passion for the beach, water, and boats. For most of his life, he owned a boat and loved the time on and off the water, preferably with a Coors. Rick also believed that if he named the boat after his wife, there was a good chance that his vessel would be two feet longer. He was a proud member of the Stamford Yacht Club and Fayerweather Yacht Club and was active in the Junior Sailing program. He coached soccer and Little League baseball and had plenty of trophies to prove it. In the winter, Rick and his family would head north every weekend to ski at Jiminy Peak, where he was active in the Junior Ski Racing Program and was nicknamed "The Voice of Jiminy Peak." Rick also loved scouting and was the Committee Chairman for Boy Scouts Troop 1 in Stamford, CT. He enjoyed working with the kids and was proud when some (including his son) obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. After his retirement, Rick added "Swim Across the Sound" to his resume. He loved being the captain of an escort boat and taking care of his team of swimmers. He also rekindled his love for "building" and carpentry. For ten years, Rick looked forward to constructing the sets for the annual musical production at Lauralton Hall in Milford, CT.
Rick is survived by his wife of almost forty years, Judith Anne Reach; his four children: Elizabeth A. DeFelice (Ralph), Jennifer K. Condit, Frederick B. Condit, Jr. (Amy), and Catherine M. Darrow (Christopher); four grandchildren: Anna R. DeFelice, Matthew M. Rojas, Sophia E. DeFelice, and Lilly R. Rojas; his brother, Jeffrey R. Condit (Katrina); his former wife, Susan E. Yunker; sister-in-law, Janet M. Graham (Timothy); and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the care and support that Rick received from the Yale New Haven Neurology and Movement Disorder Departments and the Veterans Administration. His Parkinson's Disease is linked to his Agent Orange exposure when he served in the Korean DMZ. The family is very proud of his service and thankful that his brain will be used in research of devastating neurological diseases.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Dr., Fairfield, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
