James McGrath Obituary

James Thomas McGrath
James Thomas McGrath (Jimmy) of Huntington, Connecticut tragically lost his life on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Jimmy is the loving son of Margaret and Kevin McGrath and was the sunshine of their life. His sister Rose was his best friend and confidant. Jim was born on December 18, 2004 and was always a positive, loving and caring person. Many described Jim as a wonderfully happy person with a big heart who was a loving friend to many. He loved his school, Fairfield Prep, and he excelled as an athlete in every sport he chose. He played football and lacrosse for Fairfield Prep and as a youth for Shelton and Connecticut Wolves as well. He understood the meaning of being part of a team. His loyalty and support of his team members were known to all and his team mates and coaches treasured his dedication and willingness to work hard so that the team could be the very best it could possibly be. It was never just about Jimmy- it was always about the team.
Jimmy was blessed with a large, loving family. He is survived by his mother and father, Kevin and Margaret McGrath and his sister Rosie, as well as his grandfather, Thomas Murren of Trumbull and many aunts, uncles and cousins who love him dearly. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Rose Murren, Carroll and Virginia McGrath who are now welcoming and embracing him.
Jim had so many friends who deeply cared about him. He was a good friend who had the gift of always seeing the best in everyone and spreading happiness wherever he went. He will be so missed and his memory will be treasured by all.
Jimmy's parents wish to thank the administration, coaches, teachers, parents and students of Fairfield Prep and the Shelton community for their support and caring during this incredibly sorrowful time. The outpouring of love from family, friends and the community is treasured by Jim's parents, sister and entire family.
A walk-through visitation will take place on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Egan Chapel of Saint Ignatius of Loyola at Fairfield University, 1073 North Benson Rd., Fairfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., www.fairfieldprep.org/mcgrath Please meet directly at church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fairfield College Prepatory School, 1073 North Benson Rd., Fairfield, CT 06824 in memory of Jimmy McGrath. To leave an online condolence, visit us at www.abriola.com.

To The McGrath Family:
I didn't have the honor of knowing Jimmy personally but I saw him play many times. I want to offer my deepest heartfelt prayers and condolences for your terrible loss. As a parent I can't imagine what you are going through at this time but I want you to know the entire Prep community is remembering you in their prayers. I graduated 50 years ago but I still love and cherish the school and the friendships I've made there. Jimmy will always be a Prepster and will always have a place in all our hearts. Again, my deepest prayers and condolences.
