Joseph Alfano Obituary

Joseph R. Alfano, Sr.
Joseph R. Alfano, Sr., age 90 passed away peacefully on May 30, 2022 (Memorial Day) at home with daughter and family. Joseph was born on August 13, 1931, son of the late Peter Alfano, Sr. and Mary (Pierro) Alfano. He lived in Shelton, CT for 57 years, before moving to Florida in 2021. Joseph was a veteran, who was proud to serve in the Army Reserves, with an honorable discharge. He was honored for his service, by Kindred Hospice in Florida, with a plaque and pin. He worked for Sikorsky Aircraft as a Stock Handler, and then became a mason by trade. He loved working with stone and bricks and worked for Mondo Construction in Monroe, CT and Decamillo Brothers Construction in New York until 1970. He later worked and retired from the City of Shelton School System in February 1998, where he was a Maintenance Custodian. Joseph had a passion for making his own wine with his son for 20 years and enjoyed sharing with family and friends. He enjoyed working in his yard and loved to paint pictures for family and friends. He traveled with his wife and took many cruises and traveled to Italy, along with other places. He also loved to go to the casino and play the slot machines. Joseph had a wonderful adventure finding his cousins in Sicily, Italy with his daughter Sandy and husband John. This was his dream, to find and explore his father's place of birth Modica, Sicily and to meet and know his Italian family in April 2016. He was the devoted and loving husband for 64 years to the late Mary (Mraz) Alfano. Joseph was a loving father to his children: Sandra Tokarczyk and her husband John of Florida, Debra Schilkowski and her husband Fred of North Carolina and Joseph R. Alfano, Jr. and his wife Amy of Milford, CT. He also leaves six cherished grandchildren, Melissa Tokarczyk, John Tokarczyk and his wife Janine, Fred Schilkowski, Jr., Jeremy Schilkowski and his wife Jen, Meghan Cassillo and her husband Stephen and Jesse Alfano and four great-grandchildren, Myla, Taylin and Landon Casello and Kaleb Schilkowski. He is also survived by a brother Peter Alfano, Jr. of Ansonia, and two sisters Dorothy Wheeler and Janet Wolfinger both of Bridgeport. Joseph was predeceased by a sister Barbara Jones. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Tuesday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10 AM for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church. His burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may leave condolences at www.riverviewfh.com.
