Joseph Matthews Obituary

MATTHEWS Mr. Joseph T. Matthews, age 86, beloved husband for mare than 50 years to the late Julia G. Romano Matthews, formerly of Bronx, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Son of the late Thomas and Ethel Matthews, he was born on April 6, 1919, in Hell2s Kitchen, N.Y. Mr. Matthews was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was part of the invasion at Normandy and later received the bronze star. He was a fireman in the South Bronx for 33 years with the New York City Fire Department. Mr. Matthews was a member of the Emerald Society New York City and New York Fire Fighters Association and a former member of St. Francis of Rome, Bronx, N.Y. His work and dedication to his country, state and family will always be admired. He made a major impact on many people2s lives and will be greatly missed. Mr. Matthews is survived by a son, Kenneth J. Matthews and his wife, Kathleen, of Orange; two grandchildren, Alesha Lynch and her husband, William and Dr. Kristine Morales and her husband, Jose; and two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Thomas Lynch. Friends may call on Saturday, September 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, Milford. Committal will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Hospice Home Care, 680 Bridgeport Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.
