Josephine Burns Obituary

Josephine Mascia Burns
Josephine Mascia Burns, age 90, of Shelton and formerly of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Edward T. Burns Jr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2023 with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Rosemarie Manente Mascia. Josephine was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 22, 1932 and married Edward in 1955. In 1957, they pooled all of their resources together to buy a used dump truck and established Burns Construction Co. in Stratford. She would work by her husband's side as an administrator for many years before her retirement. She loved traveling, enjoyed her winters in Florida and was a member at Mill River Country Club for over 30 years. Josephine was a devout catholic, she attended Mass at St. Mark's Church, Stratford, where she was a eucharistic minister and also volunteered for the CT Spina Bifida Association. But above all things, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured time spent with family and always put their needs before her own. Her smile could light up a room when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were by her side. The unconditional love she gave and the values she taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her youngest son, John Patrick Burns and a brother, Lawrence Mascia. Josephine is survived by her beloved children, four sons: Edward T. Burns III and his wife Pamela, Richard Burns and his wife Deborah, Kenneth Burns and his wife Donna, Ronald Burns and his husband Louis, 11 grandchildren: Edward Burns IV and his wife Meghan, Jessica Burns Butanowicz and her husband Ryan, Melissa Burns, Richard Burns Jr. and his wife Diana, Brendan Burns, Nicholas Burns, Rachel Burns Sando and her husband Andrew, Kenneth Burns Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, Joseph Burns and his wife Elayna, Monica Burns, and Isabella Burns, 18 great grandchildren, a brother Andrew Mascia and his wife Grace, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow in Putney Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. To leave an online condolence please visit www.abriola.com .

Ronn, Ken, Ed, and Rich, I just today, heard about Jo´s passing today! I really loved her! She was one of my favorite MRCC moms and I always liked playing golf with her and my mom. I loved her passion for the Spinabifida fund raisers that we participated in together. She was the real deal and you were all blessed to have her as a mom and John was too. Now she is at peace with her son and husband. God Speed, Jo Burns. You were a good friend and I am sure my mom is glad to see you!
