Louis Zowine Obituary

Louis Zowine
January 6, 2022
Louis C. Zowine, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on January 6, 2022, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer one month shy of his 82nd birthday in Nokomis, FL. Lou was born in Middletown, NY on February 16, 1940, formerly resided in Easton and Trumbull, CT. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael T. Zowine and Hannah Zowine, brother Thomas Zowine and nephew Philip Zowine.
Lou excelled both in the classroom and in athletics. He played football, basketball, and baseball at Fairfield Prep High School in CT. In 1957, the Fairfield Prep football team went undefeated. Lou was the tight end and a key player on his team. The highlight of his season came when he recorded three offensive touchdowns and one interception for a touchdown against Milford. In 1999, Fairfield Prep awarded Lou with their 4th Annual President's Award for his exemplary service and loyalty to Fairfield Prep. Father Boughton wrote "I know Lou Zowine to be a real Christian gentleman, a man of integrity, hard work, and absolute devotion to his family."
After graduating Fairfield Prep in 1958, Lou attended Fairfield University where he played on the baseball team. He continued his educational path by studying for his JD at Fordham Law School in the Bronx.
Lou had a law practice in Bridgeport, CT for 50 years. As a leader in the legal community the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association awarded him with the prestigious "Distinguished Service Award" in 2014 for recognition of his 50 plus years of service, leadership in the legal community, and for being instrumental in bringing about the volunteer attorney program in the Judicial District of Fairfield at Bridgeport, which has helped countless homeowners facing foreclosures gain free advice and assistance.
Lou's community involvement over the years was extensive. He served as a Board Member and President of the Boys and Girl Club in Bridgeport, the Bridgeport and Easton, CT Republican Town Committee, Governor's Commission to Rewrite the Election Law, Past President of Notre Dame of Easton, CT, and served as the Easton Bath Ruth League President, Past Secretary of Fairfield Prep Alumni Board and Past President of the Men's Golf Association of Mission Valley Country Club.
For fun, Lou was a tough competitor on the golf course where he was a perennial 7 handicap. He would find great joy in winning even if there was no money on the line. Lou loved his wife Ann, his wife of 56 years, her Italian cooking, watching his grandchildren play sports, the Yankees, Giants, going out to dinner with friends, and playing golf at Mission Valley and Redding Country Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Elizabeth Zowine, daughter Rachelle Skovira (Joe), son Michael A. Zowine (Jocelyn), son David T. Zowine (Karina), grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Zowine, Kylie, Cole and Quinn Skovira, Zoe, Alexa, and Duke Zowine, sister-in-law Roberta Zowine, nephew Marc Zowine and brother-in-law Anthony Nicoletti, sister-in-law Michele and nieces Gia Polio and Alicia Nicoletti.
A service to celebrate the life of Lou will be held at the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, Florida on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11a.m.

Once when I was seven and staying in my grandmother's house while my little sister was getting born, Lou stayed with his gm, and my gm said, "go play with little Louie'. He grew to play football. Many years later, I needed lawyer in Bpt to settle my mother's estate, in 2001. Fine man. Fellow Prepster.

Dear Ann and family,
I was sad to hear of Lou's passing. My Dad, Jack O'Connor, was a good friend of you and Lou and my wife and I continued to use Lou for our real estate closings and I kept in touch with Lou over the years and faithfully brought him calendars every year when we would catch up on the latest family news. Lou was a good man and he lived a good life. I will keep your family in my prayers.
