Mary Edwards Obituary

Mary (Marie) Edwards
January 8, 1939 - July 31, 2024
Mary (Marie) Francis Edwards (Byrne), of Weston, MA, formerly of Fairfield, CT and Medfield, MA passed away after a courageous battle, peacefully at her home in Weston, surrounded by her family and caregivers on July 31, 2024.
Born to James and Agnes Byrne (Boyle) on January 8, 1939, she grew up in Jamica Plain, MA with her younger sister, Clare. Marie married her husband Warren Edwards in 1967, and they relocated to Medfield, where they welcomed their children, Jamie and Laura. Life brought them to Fairfield, CT shortly after, where she lived for 46 years. She and Warren relocated to Weston, MA to be closer to her beloved grandchildren, Benny and Teddy Edwards-Lassner.
Marie was a devoted mother, spending much of her time shuttling Jamie and Laura to and from all activities, watching endless ball games, and swim practices. Marie graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and went on to Boston College for her undergraduate degree, and years later completed a Master of Education program. Before she started her family, Marie taught elementary school in Massachusetts and went on to teach in Connecticut. She taught with compassion and care, ensuring that all her students felt supported wherever they were in their learning journey.
Marie leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Warren Edwards of Weston, son Jamie Edwards and his wife Melissa, daughter Laura Edwards-Lassner, and her much loved grandchildren Benny and Teddy. She is predeceased by her parents, James and Agnes Byrne (Boyle), her beloved sister, Clare Kelleher (Byrne) and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews, as well as her much-loved pets.
The family would like to share our gratitude for the support she received during her illness from the phenomenal doctors and nurses at Dana Farber, as well as those from Brighton Hospice, and the team of round-the-clock superstar caregivers from KRS Senior Care, as well as the staff at Maplewood Senior Living. We are forever grateful for the love you have shown our mother during her transition.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 584 W. Falmouth Hwy, West Falmouth. A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on the same day at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Road, Falmouth with burial to follow at MA National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please donate to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, or the ASPCA in Marie's name.
