Michael D. Babey, age 93, of Trumbull, the beloved husband of Susan Polascik Babey, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mike was born on October 27, 1929 in Fairfield to the late Michael and Katarina Babey and has been a longtime area resident. He was a graduate of Harding High School, class of 1947 and upon graduation, served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa and Japan. He started a carpentry contracting business, Michael D. Babey Inc., which he operated for six decades, serving a great number of loyal customers. Mike built the family house in Trumbull, in 1958, and lived there ever since. He loved to fish, make furniture, and tinker with small engines. He was a lifelong member of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport, serving as Church officer, and where he had been actively involved in the Fathers and Son club, the church building committee, the St John's seniors, and a long-time member of the St. John's Cemetery board. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 68 years, include his devoted children, Michael A. Babey and Sharon Esares and her husband Eugene, his loving grandchildren, Kristin Dwyer and her husband Daniel, Nicholas and Stephen Esares, two cherished great-grandsons, Maximos and Theophilos Dwyer, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by all his siblings, George Babey, Katherine Dirgo, Annie Babey and Mary Hlavaty. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, 364 Mill Hill Ave., Bridgeport. A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.
