Philip Lynch Obituary

Philip Patrick Lynch Sr
Philip Patrick Lynch Sr. of Bridgeport passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the age of 87.
Phil was born on March 5, 1933 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to John A. Lynch and Alice L. Reiley Lynch.
The youngest of seven, he relocated to Bridgeport with his parents at the age of 14 to join the rest of his family who migrated to the city during World War II. Phil's family and his future wife's family met when they both lived in Success Village on the city's East Side. He graduated Harding High School in 1951, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an air traffic controller during the Korean War.
Upon his discharge from the Air Force, Phil returned to Bridgeport and worked at Bridgeport Machines. In 1963 he joined the Bridgeport Fire Department, where he worked until his retirement in 1988.
In addition to the fire department, Phil worked multiple jobs for companies such as McKesson, Chapin Bangs, and Connecticut Limousine. After retirement, he worked for Coyne's Carpet and Notre Dame High School. While he did not have much time for hobbies, he was always quick with a joke or a great story. He was an avid sports fan, following his beloved Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, New York Giants and Penn State College football. Phil was also a proud 4th degree Knight of Columbus with the Msgr. Murphy Council.
Phil was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Helen Olexovitch, John Lynch, Joseph Lynch, Mary Alice Napolitano, Anne Boehm and Frank Lynch, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Phil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sheila A. Roche Lynch of Bridgeport, his son Philip P. Lynch Jr. of Pittsburgh, his son Timothy M. Lynch of Bridgeport, his daughter Colleen E. Lynch of Bridgeport, his son Daniel R. Lynch and his wife Michaelene of Stratford and his son Patrick M. Lynch and his wife Dalila of Trumbull. He is also survived by his grandchildren Megan Lynch, Patrick Lynch, Ashley Lynch and Daniel Lynch.
The family would like to express its profound thanks for the outstanding and compassionate care Phil received from the staff of Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice Care in the final weeks of his life.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, January 6 at 10 a.m. in St Patrick's RC Church North Ave., Bridgeport, interment to follow in Mt Grove Cemetery Bridgeport. The Larson Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Dear Sheila, Philip, Tim, Danny, Patrick and Colleen, I am so sorry I was unable to attend Phil's funeral. Please know that I had all of you in my thoughts and prayers and continue to do so. I hold such wonderful memories of first growing up and having you Sheila and Phil be such special friends to my parents. Later as an adult I enjoyed my time in cabarets with Phil as well as other St Pat's and ND functions. Such a special bond for all of us. I will always remember Phil as the funny man, yet a gentle, good, & kind soul. I know that he and Bill Porter are up there making the rest of the gang laugh!
Love, Nancy

Dear Sheila and family,
I’m sending you all my deepest sympathy along with love and prayers. I’m remembering all the wonderful times we shared with both you and Phil. The parties, class reunions and many get together with you both and the rest of the “gang” will always be remembered. Michael and I are blessed to call him friend, although all the gang were more like brothers than friends.it was an honor to be a part of that very special group.
Sheila, I’m sending you my love and a very special hug. The next time I visit I’ll be sure to get together with you. ❤❤ Jeanne Gelormino

The greatest measure of a person is the legacy that they leave behind. Phil put tremendous children into the world, who serve the public with bravery, distinction, love, and heart. That kind of fruit is the result of great work by the farmer. God bless the Lynch family, and find your rest in God’s house.

To Sheila and the Lynch Family,
Sending thoughts and prayers to all of you at this difficult time. I always looked forward to seeing his smile at all of the events I attended with Bob. Phil was a true gentleman who always thought of others. My dad always spoke highly of him as a co-worker on the Fire Dept too. RIP ❤

Dad Lynch was a man of few words, but made you feel welcomed and loved. When he smiled, it brightened up the room. As much as he was serious, he had a sense of humor and could brighten anyones day. My heart goes out to the family and loved ones. May the passage of time heal the pain and memories of him bring smiles and joy back to you.

Sheila and Family-As I saw Phil’s obituary, memories of wonderful times and beautiful people rushed in.From St.Pat’s to Notre Dame,it was the best of times. We could always be prepared for many laughs from Phil and always concern for others.A true man of the ol’ sod.I’m sure he and Father Bill and Sister Marion are dancing a few jigs and raising a bit of the “good stuff” and-most likely causing a bit of disruption-as well they should.God bless all of you.
