Richard Haskell Obituary

Richard Montgomery Haskell II of Milford, CT, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at Milford Hospital in Connecticut with his loving family at his side. Richard (or, as he was known to his many friends and acquaintances, Rick) was born on August 18, 1944, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, to Philip Haskell and Evelyn Vogts-Haskell. He was a graduate of Joel Barlow High School of Redding/Easton. Rick served in the U.S. Coast Guard along the East Coast from 1964 to 1968 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Shortly thereafter, he married Doreen Dean at Notre Dame of Easton, CT, with whom he shared the next 55 years of his life together. Over the years Rick worked in the hospitality and transportation industries, taught restaurant and hotel management classes in Bridgeport, CT and New York, NY in the late 1980s, volunteered with Easton EMS, worked for Metro Taxi (now M7) of West Haven for 25 years, and most recently, charting locations and traveling for Google of Mountain View, CA, and caring for his family. Rick enjoyed cooking, operating ham radios and other electronics, reading books by Tom Clancy, listening to classic rock, and current movies and news. He loved traveling for work and was not afraid to go to new places. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Jasmine D. Haskell and Brian R. Burghart. Rick is survived by his wife Doreen A. Haskell of Milford CT, son Richard (Tina) Haskell of Tolland CT and daughter Barbara Haskell-Burghart (Brian) of Milford CT, as well as sisters Ann Hardison of Biloxi MS, Leigh Durant (Brian) of Dickson, TN, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip Haskell and Evelyn Haskell of Easton CT, as well as brothers John (Gregory) Haskell, Philip Haskell II, Blake T. Haskell (Deb Herron) and sisters Claire Haskell and Mary Bethany Haskell. A private family service and burial will be held to honor Rick’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Heart Association in memory of Rick.
