Ruth Tucker Obituary

TUCKER Ruth F. Tucker, age 89 of Fairfield, passed away peacefully Monday, April 25, 2011 in her home with her loving daughter by her side. Ruth was born in Greenwich on June 6, 1921. She was the daughter of the late A.J. and Tillie Graves of Greenwich. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Tucker Sr. of Fairfield. Ruth was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Lyons, and two brothers, Charles (Pete) Graves and William Graves. Ruth graduated from Greenwich High School and attended Ohio Wesleyan University and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. In the 1940s, she worked for the War Price and Rationing. After marrying Bob in June of 1946, they moved to Fairfield. She was a member of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church where she was involved in the Womens Guild and served on the Board of Deaconess. She sang in the church choir for many years as well. Up until the last two years, she volunteered during the annual Dogwood Festival. Ruth worked for "Smokenders" in the late 1960s to early 1970s. She also worked for the Fairfield YMCA as coordinator of the after school girls program. In 1978 she went to work for MBI in Norwalk until her retirement in 2003 at age 82. Ruth touched the lives of many people as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, co-worker, and friend. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her children, Robert (Bob) and Cora Tucker of Austin, Texas and Darlene and Matthew Trupp of Stratford; five grandchildren, Robert (Leslie) Tucker and Amy (Dan) Miller all of Columbus, Ohio, Katie Tucker of New Braunfels, Texas., Michael (Jennifer) Trupp of West Haven, and Daniel (Aimee) Trupp of Louisville, Ky.; nine great-grandchildren, Dylan,Tatum and Reese Tucker, Anna and Claire Miller, Gabrielle and Kassidy Trupp and Darwynn and Otto Trupp. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church with the Rev. Dr. David Rowe and the Rev. Dr. Alida Ward co-officiating. In lie of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, CT, Operation Hope, 636 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824 or Vitas Hospice, Merritt 8 Corporate Park, 99 Hawley Lane, Stratford, CT 06614.
