Salvatore C. Varrone

VARRONE Salvatore C. (Raymond) Varrone, age 80, of Bridgeport, the beloved husband of Margaret McGee Varrone, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at St. Vincent0s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Bridgeport, on May 28, 1923, he was the son of the late Angelo and Clotilda Forte Varrone, and was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. Mr. Varrone was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Sal was a retired machinist for the Bullard Co. of Fairfield, was president of the Holy Name Society of St. Raphael0s Church and worked tirelessly for the Feast of St. Anthony at St. Margaret0s Shrine. Young Salvatore was the light of his family as a child, and became known to many as "Ray" a ray of sunshine. Ray was a diehard New York Giant, Boston Red Sox and Husky fan. "Gramp" and his grandchildren shared an unconditional love for one another. Their time together was filled with laughter. He cherished every moment with them as much as they did with him. Uncle Ray loved his nieces and nephews and he shared many special friendships. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, of 56 years. His daughters, Sandra Cuminotto and her husband, Mathew Jr. of Bridgeport, and Sherry Varrone and her husband, Dennis Rodgerson, of Trumbull; his grandchildren, Dawn Cuminotto Rivera and her husband, Richard, Tiffany Cuminotto Reis and her husband, Delmar, Mathew Cuminotto III and his fiancée, Lee Ann Perrellie and Aaron and Ryan Rodgerson; his sister, Catherine "Kitty" Cook; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving sister, Elsie DeLorenzo; and his brothers, Anthony, John and Joseph Varrone. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at 9 a.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, and at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret0s Shrine, Park Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home.
