He was the beloved son of Arthur and Annette Ziomek Hlywa and a great brother to Art and Tom Hlywa. He was the proudest uncle of Alex, Kate ,Mia, and Annika Hlywa . They were his pride and joy , and Mia would like everyone to know that Uncle Steve was her roller-coaster buddy. Steve was employed by the state of Ct. for many years but most recently was working at Slocum and Sons wine and liquor distributor in North Haven, where he developed lifelong friendships. "Walk proud and think of thunder" . He also marched with his father over the years in the Ct. Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps ,and more recently with the Park City Pride Alumni Drum and Bugle corps. Steven is also survived by his cousins Anthony, Adrienne ,Stephanie , Claire and Audrey Ziomek , Uncle Whitey and Aunt Chris , Aunt Nancy , Uncle Rich and Aunt Joan , and his Godmother Frances Tracz (Frania) ,and many other cousins , uncles and aunts. Steven was predeceased too early by his loving godfather Thomas Ziomek and his grandparents Mani and Pop Ziomek , John and Mary Hlywa. Steve's was a life that wasn't his ,but it was a life that was about all the people that he lived to touch! Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Edward F. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Steve. My deepest sympathies to his whole family. He delievered to my store for many years and I enjoyed seeing him each week. He always had a smile on his face (even on a bad day) and would, without fail, take a minute and chat about whatever. He ended every visit with a "Have a wonderful!" Right back at you, Steve...

Michael Martino

Sleepy, Your memory and the memories I have stored in my heart will be cherished forever. You touch the lives of the Martino family and we are all better for knowing you for over 40 years. We were friends from a young age, even prior to our arrival in the Carriage Drive neighborhood. We shared many "firsts" in our lives from adolescence, through our teenage years, into adulthood, and I am proud to have had you as another Brother. Remembering many of these events has brought a well deserved smile, followed by many tears. You have left us way to soon, but the impact you had on everyones life will not be forgotten. Sue Ellen and I were honored to have you in our wedding, and could always count on you showing up on cue at the birth of Talia, Julian and Olivia. You got to know Julian well at the farm. He, Brandon and their gang all have fond memories. Personally I could write a long book capturing the fun we always had playing softball, basketball, football, golf and Bocce. For 20 years you were my right hand organizing Thanksgiving Bocce. "The best leadoff man in the game", Stephano Squeezello could always be counted on to be the first arrival, bloody mary's in hand, while starting the fire to keep us all warm. You were priceless in your "Soprano" Gear; matching sweatpants with jet black hair, muscle tee and extra chest hair. Our only triumphant year you styled the Bocce pitch with your light blue leisure suit, wide lapeled yellow short sleeve button down shirt with crimson sweater. At the opening of the Apple Drive coliseum, you strolled down the red carpet carrying yourself like a champion with your oversized Martini glass, spilling nary a drop the entire day. The brown jug was yours for the taking each and every year, but in true fashion you allowed others to bask in the glory from time to time. Those few memories we shared with everyone and we will laugh as we recount them each time we are together. You were a gentle soul who never caused trouble and never hurt anyone. Please look over each of us from heaven, watch out for your nieces and nephew and keep them safe as they navigate this life. Raise your glass with Pop and Uncle Tom as they welcome you to heaven and we will do the same remembering our lives together. Until we see you again, Sleepy. God Bless and I love you.
