Steven Merrihew Obituary

MERRIHEW Steven Andrew Merrihew, born June 11, 1986 in Norwalk, a loving son to Brydon and Annette; devoted brother to Jackie and Christy; loyal grandson to Brydon, Marion and Dorothy; and caring friend to many. He was lost to all who love him in a motor vehicle accident, August 29, 2006 at the young age of 20. Steven was raised in Trumbull, a graduate of Trumbull High, Connecticut School of Broadcasting and worked as a shift manager at Starbucks. Steven, a passionate Gemini lived life to the absolute fullest. This avid Met fan "kept it real" which showed through his actions, embracing hugs and infectious smile. Steven (SM Flex) put his heart and soul into writing his rhymes. Steve's charisma and charm shined while promoting for Congas Night Club in New Haven. He will not be forgotten by anyone who ever met him, Steven is our angel! A memorial service will be held on Friday (TODAY) at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Road, Fairfield. While I had only met your brother (and son) once at the Costa's party during the summer of 2005, I remember him as an energetic, fun loving guy who seemed to bring quite a bit of happiness to those he touched. My prayers are with your entire family and anyone who is close to Steve. I'm sure you recognize how lucky all of you are to have him as one of your angels. While he may not physically be here I'm sure you all realize he is always with each of you each and every moment of every day.

Although it's been years since I've seen Steven, I can still vividly remember him dressed as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, karate-chopping through the house as a 7 year old. My thoughts are with the whole Merrihew family and all of those that knew Steven.

September 12, 2006

To the Merrihew Family, I am sending my deepest sympathies and wishing you strength for the days ahead. I haven't seen you for almost 20 yrs but I have never forgotten any of you. I look back so fondly on all of my days babysitting for Jackie, Christy and Steven. I will never forget little Steven's huge smile, it was truly contagious. Needless to say, my heart broke when I heard the news. I attended his service and was unbelievably moved...I only regret that I never knew Steven, the young man. What I do know is that he was an incredibly special person who touched so many...I really believe we are all better off for having known him, no matter for what length of time it may have been. Steven is now truly an an angel.

September 12, 2006

I did not know Steve by name but when I saw his picture in Starbucks my heart sank. I remember him as such a fun, happy guy who made a great latte. He always knew what I wanted as soon as entered the store. He had such a great smile that would make you feel better when you left. My thoughts are with your family in this time and you are in my prayers. He will be your angel watching over you.

September 11, 2006

I didn't know your son by name, only as the young man who worked at Starbucks and greeted all with his beautiful smile. He treated everyone who walked into the store like he was happy to see them; I was always amazed by this. I am sure you are so proud of him and I hope time helps ease your pain

Dear Annette, Brydon, Jackie and Christy

I am deeply sorry and saddened by your loss. I will remember Steven as someone who was wise beyond his years. He was funny, energetic, and outgoing; in many ways he was like a “little brother” to those who spent time in the Merrihew household. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you in this difficult time.

Dear Annette, Brydon, Jackie and Christy - I was in Starbucks in Westport today and saw a beautiful tribute to Stephen on the chalk board and asked about him - and the reaction from the crew there was very touching - and for me, became one of profound shock and sadness. On behalf of all the Goddu's - all around the country - our hearts are with you all. We are deeply sorry and moved by this loss. While very few of us had the privilege to have ever met Stephen, our parents' and family friendship bring childhood memories of Brydon and his siblings; and especially, the Merrihew's infectious love of life that would certainly have been part of Stephen's DNA. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless.

Merrihew Family,

My heart was broken when I heard this most tragic news. Why do these things happen to such great people. Steven spoke fondly of his family to me, stating that they were "beautiful people". That touched me. I will miss his energy and smile. Please know that my sincere prayers are with you. He is among the angels.

Peace and respect.
