Thomas Talamini Obituary

Thomas R. Talamini
Thomas R. Talamini of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on August 26, 2022, at the age of 97.
Tom is survived by his two children, Gregory Talamini of Gualala, California and Lesley March of Chico, California. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Talamini, the mother of his children; and his second wife of 40 years, Jane Sands Keator Talamini, who died in 2016.
Tom was born on June 14, 1925, in California to La Veta and Ulysses Talamini. After being medically discharged from the Marine Corps, Tom went to the University of California, Berkeley and became a faithful alumnus who followed their sports teams. After graduation, Tom began his career as a newspaper reporter. He worked on numerous small newspapers in northern California. It was at this time that he met his first wife, Joan.
Joan and Tom had adventurous spirits and they and their two children immigrated to Manly, Australia, where Tom took a job with a newspaper there. Sadly, after only a couple of years, Joan was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and they returned to the States.
Tom had a very interesting career as a newspaperman and also tried his hand at technical writing for a large corporation but didn't care for it. His later career years were spent writing travel stories for magazines. He loved to travel and his territory of choice was the Pacific. It was while he was there for a Pacific Area Travel Association conference in Seoul, Korea that he met his second wife, Jane, who was attending the same conference. They ended up residing in Mill Valley, California until Tom retired in 1988.
At that time, they moved back to Jane's hometown of Fairfield, Connecticut, where they began a new chapter in their lives, getting involved and giving back to their new community. Tom edited the newsletter for the Fairfield Historical Society (now the Fairfield Museum and History Center) and was the editor of the newsletter for Fairfield's Senior Center for many years. He was a long-time member of the Fairfield Beach Club, the Pequot Yacht Club, the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, Pequot Library, and groups involved with preserving open space. Tom cared passionately about the environment and animals. He is survived by his sweet rescue cat, Middy. For the past 25 years, Tom could be found having breakfast twice a week at the Driftwood Sandwich Shop in downtown Southport.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, September 12 at 2 pm in Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, followed by committal in the Memorial Garden of the church. Donations in his memory can be made to charities that support the environment or animals. Arrangements are in the care of the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road.

We were saddened to hear that Tom passed away. Wally and I are happy that we got to know Jane and Tom ; it was a pleasure to prepare some dinners for them as I know they truly appreciated them. May they Rest In Peace.
