William Kish Obituary

KISH William T. (Captain) Kish, of West Haven, died at his home on Monday, August 2, 2004. He was born in Bridgeport, son of the late Kalman and Mae Driscoll Kish. Captain Kish attended St. Charles parochial school. He graduated from high school in 1944, and entered Holy Ghost Seminary. In 1948 he joined the U.S. Navy Aviation and attended helicopter training and catapult training schools. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in Moffitt Field, Calif., the Transport Aircraft Squadrons in Seattle, and Naval Station of Agana, Guam, flying to Japan, Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong, Siam and Johnston Island. He also took pilot training and intelligence training as an enlisted man. He was placed on the Navy"s temporary retirement list in 1954, and attended Michigan State University, graduating with a bachelor"s degree in criminal justice. In civilian life, he worked for American Airlines and Kemper Insurance Co. as a claims investigator in Bridgeport. He was a managing editor for the Charlton Publications in Derby, a news editor for the Bridgeport Telegram and was a freelance writer and literary agent. He was a member of the American Legion, DAV, VFW and the Navy Fleet Reserve. He is survived by a brother, Kalman Kish of Milford; a sister, Ann Young of Shelton; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held from the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Church, West Haven, at 11 a.m. Friends may call prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors.
