David Calhoun Obituary

David M. Calhoun, 71, of Oakwood Place, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at his home.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor D. Michael Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, N.M. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
David M. Calhoun was born Dec. 21, 1941, in Carlsbad, N.M., to Martin and Relda (Williams) Calhoun. He was a great athlete and excelled in several sports, graduating from Carlsbad High School in 1961. David married Judy Kirk on March 10, 1973, here in Carlsbad. Together, David and Judy owned and operated Cal's Shade Western Lounge and Cal's Cactus Lanes Bowling and Recreation Center for more than 24 years.
David always considered their employees and patrons a part of their family and it was mutually felt. He loved spending time with his family. David enjoyed cards, football, shooting pool and telling jokes. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and life member of B.P.O.E., Lodge No. 1558. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy Calhoun; daughter, Sherri Calhoun; and brother, Bob Calhoun.
Survivors are two daughters: Shawna Calhoun and Robert deMoss of Carlsbad, N.M., and Tammy Calhoun and Leslie McWilliams of Carlsbad, N.M.; grandchildren: Shane Stegall, Skyler Stegall, Sahsha Davis-Van Curen, Stacy Stegall Jr. and Mickey Jones; great-grandchildren: Christian and Braeden Van Curen; brother, James Calhoun and wife, Marian of Carlsbad, N.M.; sisters-in-law, Retha Calhoun and Sandi Speer; brothers-in-law: James Kirk and Steve Kirk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Stacy Stegall Sr. and Terry Fuson. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
