Mary Shipley Obituary
Visitation will be from 2-5:45 p.m. today (Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009) at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Sunset Church of Christ with Mike Veilleux officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Belle Shipley was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Henry and Bernice (Hollis) Netz. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1949. Mary Belle married Pete Shipley on Jan. 10, 1950, in Artesia, N.M. She worked at IMC until Judy was born. Mary Belle spent the next years raising her five daughters and caring for several other children as well. She went to work at Sears after the girls were older, where she worked until retirement. Mary Belle cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long time member of Sunset Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, L. T. "Pete" Shipley and sister, Willa Crabb.
Survivors include: five daughters: Judy Morgan and husband Sharky of Loving, N.M., Ellen Harkness and husband Dennis of Carlsbad, Diane Briggs and husband Mark of Carlsbad, Debbi Parker and husband Lester of Graham, Texas, and Lorie Owens and husband Mike of Carlsbad; 13 ggrandchildren: Jimmy Morgan and wife Michelle, Steven Morgan, David Harkness and wife Tina, Kevin Harkness and wife Shelli, Misti Frazier, Mandi Whitehead, Lisa Greenup, Shea Briggs, Matt Briggs, Jason Parker, LeAnn Parker, Michael Owens and wife Cristal, Brandi Griffin and husband Jeremy; 16 great-grandchildren: Siddalee, Nina, Jaslyn, Noah, Harley, Cadence, Hunter, Zakk, Ryan, Nick, Faith, Andrew, Reina, Luke, Jaret, Jacob; brother: Wesley Netz and wife Teresa of Abilene, Texas; brother-in-law: Bill Crabb and wife Shirley of Carlsbad; sister-in-law Vernell Barrick and husband Benny of Carlsbad; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Christian Camp Scholarship Fund, c/o Sunset Church of Christ, 1308 W. Blodgett St., Carlsbad, NM 88220.

Mary Belle was my babysitter for years and we loved her. I never saw her that she wasn't smiling. We met at the micro-midget races and had a blast for years. I will miss her and loved her and her family lots.

I remember Mary Belle very well. She always made me feel as if I was part of her own family. I baby-sat for the little girls many years ago. I am sure that she was a wonderful grandmother. She just had that special way about her of making kids feel good.
