Utana Allen Obituary

A funeral service for Utana Sue Allen will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at the West Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Stahl of Hillcrest Methodist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Utana Sue, 69, of Carlsbad, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Lakeview Christian Home.
West Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Utana Sue Allen was born May 28, 1939, to Horace B. Haggerton and Loretha Philpott Haggerton in Carlsbad, NM. She was raised and educated in Carlsbad, graduating with the class of 1958. Utana lived in Roswell for nine years, but always thought and felt that Carlsbad was her home. She derived extreme pleasure from painting, and the subjects covered a multitude of objects and themes. Utana had many loves and passions, but Bingo was her game. Nothing brought a bigger smile than yelling that magic word.
Utana is perceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by a daughter, Deena Shipler and husband, Terry of Roswell; a son, Tracy Allen of Carlsbad; a sister, Louwana Curren of Bellevue, Neb.; brothers: Art Wayne Haggerton of Las Cruces, Roy Haggerton of Carlsbad, and Butch Haggerton of Alamogordo; six grandchildren; and 3 1/2 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Justin and Terry Shipler, Joshua and Ryan Allen, Eric Haggerton and Milton Roberts.

Art Wayne, Butch, Louwana, Roy, Utana's family and friends:

Needless to say the sorrow I feel for Utana's passing does not touch what you are each feeling. Like my sister Carol, I too am happy that she is free from pain and suffering; but I also know the bittersweet memories she leaves behind for each of you due to her long suffering, culminating in her leaving us. With the passing this year of my own sister Vertis Jean, I understand all of the emotions that fly through your hearts and thoughts at times like these. Jean is the second sibling of mine who took her leave from our family, J.B. Jr. being the first. Art, as always, you especially are in my heart and prayers. My best childhood memories of your family and mine are all wrapped around you and me, not only as cousins but as buddies.

May God watch over each of you and may Jesus ease some of your pain and give you a place to which to retreat.

Love, Linda Gay

To Utana's Family,

Just a note to let each one of you know that you have been in my thoughts and my prayers. Even though I did not know Utana well when we were young, because she was older than me, I felt that we became close in our adult years. She was truly an inspiration to me.

I love each of you and I care about this difficult time in your lives.

I am so sorry for your loss. She was one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. I was glad I got to meet her from school. God Bless you all. Now she is sitting there with my grandma looking down upon the familes left behind.

Tracy, Deena, Butch, Art, Louwana, and Roy,
Our heart goes out to all of you in the loss of your Mother and Sister, and to all her Grandchildren and family members. Utana's passing leaves a huge hole in our heart, but we take comfort in knowing she is free from her ailing body and can now dance with the Angels. Utana was not only our cousin, but a very special friend, and I am grateful for the time we shared and all my memories of her since childhood. We will miss her!
Love and prayers and blessings to you all.
