Alberta Louise was born October 4, 1937, to Albert and Flossie (Marsh) Hunt on the family farm southwest of Arcadia, Nebraska. She was raised on the farm and received her education at Arcadia Public School, graduating in 1955.

Following high school she worked at Ramsey's Drug store and was a waitress. On July 25, 1956, Alberta was united in marriage to Gerald Sell at the Methodist Church in Arcadia, Nebraska. The couple first lived on a farm south of Arcadia then to the Hunt Family Homestead in the spring of 1963. In 1990, they moved into Arcadia.

Alberta worked at BD in Broken Bow for over 25 years. After her retirement in 2000, she began babysitting children at her home in Arcadia. Children and family were a huge part of her life. On September 28, 2016, Alberta became a resident of Rose Lane Home in Loup City due to the onset of Alzheimer's.

Mr. Sell passed away on September 27, 1993. Alberta married Carl Mendyk on February 14, 1998, at Loup City Nebraska. They made their home in Arcadia. Carl and Alberta liked to camp and enjoyed attending the Comstock Music Festival and Bluegrass Music Festival in North Platte with their friends.

Alberta was a member of the Arcadia United Methodist Church, St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #251 for 48 years.

While on the farm, Alberta loved raising chickens and gardening. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, sewing, baking and cooking. She will be remembered by her delicious beef and noodles. She was awarded the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award at the Custer County Fair in August 2007.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Mendyk of Loup City; three sons, Roderick Sell and Tammy Kelly of Burwell, Martin and Lisa Sell of Arcadia and Scott Sell of Loup City; five step-children, Nick and Donna Mendyk of Ashton, Shelly Mendyk of Lincoln, Brenda Yelkin and Mark Dickey of Doniphan, Lynette and Rodney Wroblewski of Lincoln and Scott and Marie Mendyk of Kearney; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Hollis Hunt of Arcadia; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
