BERTHA THURLBY-TUINSTRA Obituary
Born Oct. 10, 1926, in Murphysboro, the daughter of Charles E. and Rose (Jacquot) Smith, she married Duaine "Pill" Thurlby June 14, 1945, in Kirkland; he predeceased her in death in 1983.
She owned and operated Bertha's Beauty Shop for 35 years in Kirkland. She then lived in Naperville for several years before moving to Tucson, where she met and married Charles Tuinstra in1994.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Tuinstra; three sons, Craig (Maureen) Thurlby of Marseilles, Curtis (Cheri) Thurlby of Bradenton, Fla., and Cal (Jacqueline) of Naperville; stepson, Michael (Sarah) Tuinstra of Tucson; two stepdaughters, Caroline (Wayne) McKenzie of Riverside, Calif., and Nancy (Mick) Farrar of Casper, Wyo.; one sister, Norma Thurlby of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Christopher and Cammi Thurlby, Tricia Brunson and Cayley, Cade and Chelsea Thurlby; and one great-grandchild, Rachael Brunson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband; and two sisters, Lorraine Allard and Vivian Awe.
Service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Quiram-Kirkland Chapel, 309 S. Fifth St., with Pastor Pamela Rossmiller officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. Sunday before the service.

Bertha started me on my career as a beautician. I worked for her for a while and do you guys remember 'Myheadable?' That was the mannequin we used to practice on. She did my hair for my wedding and helped put my veil on over 46 years ago. I will always remember her with fondness. You have my sincere sympathy on your loss.
