Sherrie Martin Obituary

Sherrie Marlene Martin
Born: March 3, 1945 in Aurora, IL
Died: February 22, 2021 in DeKalb, IL
Sherrie Marlene Martin, 75, DeKalb, Illinois, died Monday, February 22, 2021, at Kishwaukee Hospital.
Born March 3, 1945, in Aurora, she was the daughter of Archie and Beverly (Wallis) Tuntland and was a lifelong resident of Waterman, IL. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. There she met and eventually married Terry R. Martin. Sherrie dedicated her career in education to Waterman/Indian Creek Schools. In 1990 she was awarded DeKalb County Conservation Teacher of the Year. Traveling and genealogy were of importance to her and she combined these interests in journeys to Norway and Germany to meet distant relatives and explore ancestral lands. She was a member of Waterman United Methodist Church, DeKalb County Farm Bureau, DeKalb County Historical & Genealogical Society, and Waterman Area Heritage Society where she volunteered countless hours. She lent her writing talents to a variety of periodicals, magazines, and books, many to the benefit of her membership organizations. Through her philanthropy, organizations benefited, community projects saw completion or forward moving progress, and perpetual scholarships were created.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Martin, her son Ross (Marcie) Martin of Sycamore; grandchildren, Archer and Wren Martin; brother Terrie (Alexa) Tuntland of Waterman; nieces Kendra (Jason) Lucas and Trisha Tuntland; nephews John (Leona) Tuntland and Todd (Gretchen) Tuntland; aunt Starlyn (Neil) Lobdell; uncle Jim (Jane) Wallis; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie (2003) and Beverly (2014); and daughter Megan.
The private family service will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with Pastor Janet of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Afton Township Cemetery, DeKalb, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the Martin family prefers donations be made to DeKalb County Forest Preserve or an organization of choice, sent in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.

I had the pleasure of working across the hallway from Mrs. Martin. She was such a caring and creative teacher. The children truly loved her. She was such an inspiration to all her fellow teachers. I know I was certainly blessed to know her.
