Age 48, of Channahon, IL, died unexpectedly Wednesday August 3, 2016. He was born February 8, 1968 in Hammond, Indiana and was raised in Dolton, IL, a graduate of Thornton High School with the Class of 1986. A U.S. Army Veteran, Mark served as a Ranger Medic. Beloved husband of 18 years to JoAnne (nee McCann); loving father of the late Stephon, Kelsie, Erin, Kyle, Meghan and Hailey Swatek; proud grandpa of Sufian and Qassam Atik; dearest son of Christine (nee Zygmunt) and Kenneth W. Swatek and cherished son-in-law of Lois McCann. Fond brother of Kenneth (Daphne) Swatek, Jr., Sandra (Ron) Hettel, Michael Swatek, Gerald (Lynn) Swatek, Keith (Tracy) Swatek and Brent Swatek. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Mark was a Safety Specialist/Deputy Fire Chief of Flint Hills Resources in Joliet and had also served the Channahon Fire Department for 10 years as well as the Dolton Fire Department for 8 years. He loved being a firefighter, enjoyed the outdoors immensely, was a fan of the Cubs and Blackhawks, however, his family was always his priority. JoAnn & family,

Our hearts and prayers go out to you & your family. When you came to the house to tell us about Mark's passing it shocked us beyond words. Even though our families grew up in Dolton & attened Thornton High School our real relationship started 13 yrs ago when you built the house behind ours. Mark was a funny, loving all out great man. We enjoyed talking, joking, laughing & teasing each other over the fence. Mark always played with our dogs which they look so forward to. He was a great neighbor & we will miss looking over at your home & not seeing him working in the backyard. We send you love, courage & prayers as your family tries to heal from such a unexpected loss. If you need anything we are just over the fence please dont hesitate to ask. God Bless all of you and keep you in his grace and know that Mark is looking down on you as your guardian angel.
