Donald A. Sisson

ELIZABETH CITY - Donald A. Sisson, 71, Elizabeth City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2018. Don was born in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of the late Helen D. Sisson. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Linda; his son, Greg (LaToya) of Hertford, N.C.; his daughter, Miranda (Ryan) of Malvern, Pa.; and his granddaughter, Lily. He was predeceased by his brother, Joe, and is survived by his brothers, Jim (Thelma) of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and Tom (Alicia) of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don was the former principal of Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, N.C., where he served for over ten years. He was named the 2009 North Carolina Northeast Regional Principal of the Year and was a finalist for the North Carolina State Principal of the Year. He also served as the principal of Upper Merion Area High School, King of Prussia, Pa., and led them to being named a National Blue-Ribbon School. He also retired as a high school administrator, teacher, counselor, and coach from several Delaware High Schools after 31 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, 1967 to 1971, and served with distinction at Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam, 1969 to 1970.

No funeral services or visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, P.O. Box 2247, Elizabeth City, NC 27906. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, N.C., is assisting the Sisson family.
