Josephine Sharber Obituary


Elizabeth City resident

Josephine Ives Sharber, 88, of the 1300 block of Turnpike Road, Elizabeth City, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 6, 2009, in Elizabeth City. Born in Norfolk, Va. on September 26, 1920, Josephine was the daughter of the late Logan Meree Ives Sr. and Josephine J. Ives. She had one brother, the late Logan Meree Ives Jr. Josephine worked as a bookkeeper for the Boys and Girls Club of America before marrying her husband, the late Benson David Sharber Sr. Josephine was also a homemaker, raising her son, the late Benson David Sharber Jr. and her daughter, Jean Sharber Miller. As a member of Cradock United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Va. she attended services regularly until moving to Elizabeth City in 1981. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening, and remained extremely active most of her life, still working in her flowerbeds and outside working into her eighties. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Sharber Miller, and husband, Jackie Miller, of Elizabeth City; her grandson, Jared W. Miller and wife, Ashley, of Suffolk, Va.; her granddaughter, Jenna Lynn Miller of Greenville; and nephews, Logan Meree Ives III and Rutledge Fuller Ives and his son, Nathaniel Ives, of Verona, Va. Josephine is joined in heaven by her husband, son, and granddaughter, Laura Jill Miller. Graveside funeral services will be on Monday August 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Toni Wood officiating. Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Sharber family. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
