YORKSHIRE -- Irene Catherine Antoinette (Bruns) Lochtefeld, age 96, formerly of Yorkshire, passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by her family early Monday morning, July 7, 2025, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio, where she had been a resident for nearly six years. She was born August 12, 1928, in Osgood, Ohio, to the late Fred & Agnes (Heitkamp) Bruns. On June 10, 1950, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, Irene married Arthur Lochtefeld who preceded her in death on March 16, 2023.
Surviving are three children: Beverly & Randy Garrison of Versailles, Joseph & Rene Lochtefeld of New Bremen and Vernon Lochtefeld of Englewood; 11 grandchildren: Arlana & Scott Bruey, Kevin & Monica Garrison, Lee Lochtefeld, Gabriel Lochtefeld, Rachel & Mario Cartolano, Michael Lochtefeld, Joelle Lochtefeld, Karlee & Adam Klawon, Michelle & Dane Baldwin, Jay & Katya Kleinhenz and Kenzie & Jordan Klosterman along with 16 great-grandchildren: Jensen & Austen Bruey, Jack, Michael and Grace Osborne, Rowen Lochtefeld, Grayson and Arlo Hefflinger, Luca Cartolano, Max and Noah Klawon, Eliana, Hazel and Cooper Baldwin, Mila and Niko Kleinhenz as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Linda Lochtefeld; seven siblings: Sylvina & Linus Poeppelman, Alma & Ralph Grilliot, Emerita & Edward Boerger, Wilbert & Carolyn Bruns, Lawrence & Mary Bruns, Marie & Thomas Moorman and Joanne & Gregor Luebke as well as brothers & sisters-in-law: Victor & Anna Lochtefeld, Irwin & Marie Lochtefeld, Hilda & Alfred Heitkamp, Roman & Bernadetta Lochtefeld and Clarence & Alvina Lochtefeld.
Mrs. Lochtefeld was co-owner and operator of the former Yorkshire Supermarket / Hardware and had also been a homemaker. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, St. Barbara Ladies Sodality, Maria Stein Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary and a life member of the Osgood Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer at Coldwater Hospital and the Maria Stein Retreat House & Relic Chapel. Irene was dedicated to her late husband Art and cherished all of her family. She especially enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening and canning.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 10, 2025, at St. Nicholas Church in Osgood with Rev. Andrew Reckers presiding. Interment will follow at St. Martin Cemetery. Family and friends may call Wednesday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Thursday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to Osgood Area Rescue, Osgood Fire Department or Everheart Hospice.
