Mr. Heideman will be greatly missed. I had him as a art production teacher in 03/04. He loved his students and enjoyed playing a jokes on them. There was a day toward the end of the school year where theatre students were being inducted into thespians club and the students all had do what a fellow thespian told them to do. Well we had one of those students in our class and he didn't really want to do what he was told, when Mr. Heideman heard he looked at the student and told him that he was a thespian and he had to what he was told. He gave that student the hardest time. He made him run around the auditorium few times, the students wanted him to propose to Kevin (who was the auditorium manager), but he left early, so we made him propose to Mr. Heideman instead. I will always cherish that memory.

Although I never met or knew Mr. Heideman I have followed his story and I am touched and sadden by his passing. He touched many lives through his work as an educator and musician and to me the world is a better place for the contributions he made. I would like to express my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and Mira Costa High School. The greatest gift a person can give is to share your life with others and be a positive influence and mentor and he certainly did. God Bless.

One of the best people I've ever met and so much more. So passionate, caring, loving, and brilliant with your students, as well as an avid supporter of the arts. It's ironic that you taught so many of us how to cope with death in our Thanatology class, and now here I am, scrambling for any notes and reading you assigned to help me with this. John Heideman was always so happy to be wherever he was-I never saw the man not smiling (even in his failing health), and I know he's still wearing that goofy grin even now. It was an honor knowing you sir. May your body rest in peace, and your spirit live on forever.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mr. Heideman was one of the best teacher and friend that I had at Mira Costa for my 20 years. Rest in peace. Lolita Coffey
