Benjamin Charles Sapper

Benjamin Charles Sapper, Age 21, of Boulder, CO, was killed in an on-duty vehicle accident on August 4, 2023, while working as a firefighter for the United States Forest Service near Powers, OR. Benjamin was born to Michael Sapper and Helen Worden on August 28, 2001 in Glendale, CA. Benjamin was preceded in death by grandparents Charles Sapper, and Rod and Rose Worden. Surviving are his parents and sister, Emma Worden-Sapper, of Boulder, CO; grandmother Dorothy Sapper, of Hobart, IN; aunts Linda (Robert) Eyermann, Patti (Henry) Millian, and Susan (Thomas) Hill, all of Valparaiso, IN; Elaine Worden (Todd Bauck), of Louisville, CO; uncles Mark (Nancy) Sapper of Ramona, CA, and John (Pamela) Worden, of Los Osos, CA; and 15 cousins. Benjamin graduated from Boulder High School and studied applied mathematics at the University of Colorado, where he graduated summa cum laude in December, 2022. He planned to start graduate school at the University of British Columbia this fall. He joined the Forest Service this summer out of a desire to serve the community. Benjamin had a passion for baseball, chess, skiing, and engaging in deep discussions on topics ranging from philosophy to mathematics. A memorial service to honor Benjamin will be held Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 1 P.M. at the NCAR Mesa Lab facility in Boulder, CO. Memorials may be made to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation and the North Boulder Little League.
