James Roger Mellbye

James Roger Mellbye, 83, of Wilmington, Delaware, (Formerly of Yardley, Pennsylvania), passed away February 2nd, 2026, at Wilmington Hospital.

Jim was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the well-earned rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Greeley H.S. in Greeley, Colorado, and the University of Colorado. He served our country proudly in the Army working for Army Intelligence. Later, he put his skills to work as the Vice President of New York Life Insurance, where he worked for 37 years.

Jim was greatly involved in church activities and events throughout his life, starting with the Boy's Brigade to eventual leadership in the church. Jim loved gameday watching the Eagles (Go Birds!) and watching his children and grandchildren run up and down the soccer field.

James is survived by his wife, Sherry; his daughter Deanna Ritter (Matt), their children Olivia and Owen; his son Daniel Mellbye (Jill) and their children, Maddie and Lucas; his son David Mellbye; his daughter Nicole Mellbye (Rocco); and his son Christopher Mellbye.

A memorial service for Jim will be held Friday, February 27th at Crossing Community Church in Newtown, Pennsylvania (80 Lower Silver Lake Rd.). A private internment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
