Daniel Myron Lucas

1968 - 2017

Daniel Lucas was a lover of language, dance, travel, the cinema and family. His was a beautifully eccentric mind: one night you might find him dancing the polka at a German dance club with his friends, and the next watching the newest blockbuster film at a nearby theater. A wonderful uncle, caring brother and loyal son, Daniel had a way of making his nieces and nephews feel loved, especially at his favorite holiday, Christmas. He was a loving, open-minded, and compassionate soul with a deep love for knowledge and his family. Daniel Myron Lucas died March 19, 2017 at the Medical Center of Aurora. He was 48. He was born August 22, 1968 in Tucson, Arizona to Donald Leland Lucas and Patricia Ann Ward Lucas. He graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder in 1985. Daniel earned a certificate from the Institute of Comparative Political and Economic Systems at Georgetown University in 1987 and a bachelor of arts in central and eastern European studies from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1990. He graduated from the Denver University College of Law in 1994. He also earned a bachelor of arts in philosophical studies from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio in 1998. Daniel was an attorney in private practice with the Law Office of Daniel M. Lucas. In recent years, he greatly enjoyed his work at the call center of 24/7 Intouch. He had a rare and admirable intellect and was a fascinating conversationalist. Well-versed in German, French, Russian, Korean, and Spanish, he spent time overseas engaging his passion for law and teaching in Korea. The original hipster, Danny loved the Rubik's cube before it was cool, mastering it as a young boy. Daniel is survived by his mother, Patricia A. Lucas of Louisville; a brother, Donald Lucas, Jr. and his wife Jenny of Denver; two sisters, Becky Cabral and her husband Brian of Boulder, and Barb Pinson and her husband Scott of Portland, Oregon; four nephews, Kyle Cabral and his wife Daliana, Connor Pinson, Hunter Pinson, and Kellan Pinson; six nieces, Maile Cabral, Mele Fields and her husband Michael, Jessica Jackson and her husband Rod, Chloe Zagar and her husband Ryan, Sophie Joseph and her husband Colton, and Kelsey Pinson; three grand-nephews, Malakai Fields, Jericho Fields and Camden Jackson; and a grand-niece, Ivy Jackson. He was preceded in death by his father, in 1997. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25 at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery, 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder. A celebration of life reception will follow the service.
