The family moved to Colorado when she was three years old and settled on a section of land near Flagler, Colorado. Her mother died when Elbe was eight. She attended a one-room school through the 8th grade and graduated from Flagler High School in 1934. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder at the age of sixteen and received a B.A. in 1938. While at the university she met John Allen Geer of Wheeling, West Virginia. They were married on May 25, 1940 in Longmont, Colorado. Elbe taught school in Eastern Colorado during WWII while John was in the army. They returned to Boulder in 1948 where they raised a family and remained for the rest of their lives. While in college, Elbe and John were part of a mission congregation which was the roots of Grace Lutheran Church which last year celebrated its 80th anniversary. Elbe was very active in the church. In the early years she held leadership positions in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a faithful member of many bible study groups, and enjoyed the company of the quilting group until just recently. Many times Elbe was the first woman to hold a particular position such as Elder on the church council. Elbe is survived by daughters Susan Swaeby of Longmont, CO, Nancy Metcalf of Boulder, CO, Lora (Fred) Lindblom of La Mesa, CA, and son John (Jack) Geer (Jodi Williams) of Boulder, CO.
