I was so sad to hear of Mike Stanley`s passing, even though it has been now a few years. In 1981 to 1982. I was blessed to be a senior in high school who had transferred from Ohio and Mike Stanley, and Coach MacArthur were my coaches. Mike was one of the most technically proficient and most skilled coaches, I have the pleasure to work with. He taught me high levels of technique that influenced my years and wrestling, but his personality and his coaching style was also a strong influence in my life, as I became a wrestling coach in Ohio For kids in high school for almost 10 years. Wrestling has always been, and still is my most favorite sport, and that was because I was gifted with great coaches, great friends, and a great team where I learned a lot about myself and life. Wrestling is the only sport where you go out on your own to win for your team and for yourself, it teaches , you to be humble, it teaches you to be a great athlete and teaches you to be a great teammate. Mike Stanley was a huge part of my learning and growth as a high school kid and he will be missed. I tell my kids all the time about my memories at Fairview high school, and I believe that, even though we have lost such a great coach and mentor, we have gained and been left with memories that will be Far reaching , will be consistently shared, and life lessons that will not be lost. All my best to Mike and his family.

Hi Coach Mike. Thank you for being a mentor and a leader. I didnt like Fairview, but I did like Mike and he made my time there tolerable. He was someone who would cut you a break if you needed and always had a smile for you when you were down. Rest in Power king and slam God on the mat when you meet him!

Mike Stanley was amazing. I wrestled at Boulder High and he coached at Fairview. He was also my boss at the Boulder Reservoir during the summers where I worked with his son Scott. My oldest son is now wrestling here in South Carolina and I wish I could pick his brain about coaching wrestling. I see him in the opposing corner of my old matches. He is a great man.

I unfortunately just found out today and I wish I had been able to go to the service. Mike was an amazing mentor to me and I will never forget his enthusiasm, kindness and plentiful kettles of green tea! Through him I learned how to be a great teacher and mentor. I will never forget the fun we had in the science department and with the Japanese Exchange program!

Mr. Stanley was an outstanding teacher, coach and friend to so many young people in Boulder County! He taught both my sons after coming out of retirement to teach at Boulder Country Day School, and they were very fortunate to have him as a teacher! He was always so supportive and truly cared for his students. We are all deeply saddened for your loss and ours! Mike Stanley was an exceptional person who will be sincerely missed by all who knew him!

This is sad news but we wish to join the chorus of celabratories on behalf of Mike. He was a coach and mentor to our son, who is currently serving in the Navy, and was very saddened to hear of the news. He recalled 'Coach' as a teacher, coach, and climbing partner. He touched the future. RIP, Coach. Thank you. Joe Sleeper

We were blessed to have known Mr. Stanley. Mike was the best science teacher and mentor for our daughter at BCD, and that relationship continued as we visited often at Balfour where his mother and our daughter's grandmother reside. He is an AMAZING educator!!!! Thank you for sharing him with us! Heather, Damon and Lori Clark

Mike was my teacher at FHS, and my kids' teacher at BCD....one day, Lexie dug through my old yearbooks, finding a picture from the 70's - big glasses, long hair, a true flashback, photocopied it, enlarged it, and posted all over BCD, asking "Has anyone seen this man??" Mike is one of our favorite examples of how to live life - as a father, husband, grandparent, teacher - in his many roles, he inspired us all to live live with zest, enthusiasm, and kindness. see you again one day, Mike!

When I bought my home in 1986, Mike and Susan became my neighbors. Over the years they became my friends. We would talk over the fence he and I built, and often in the summer they would invite me to come over to relax and visit on their back deck. I'm the fist-born in my family, but if I could choose to have an older brother, I would have chosen Mike. Usually with a smile on his face and his dog nearby or in-tow, it was a pleasure just to say hello and talk to him. I truly miss him.

I will always remember Mike Stanley as an amazing coach, both in wrestling and in life. On the matt, he was merciless...and a sportsman through and through. He always had a fire, and a heart that was bigger than you thought those lanky limbs could contain. You will be missed, and always remembered.

I always enjoyed a chat with Mike. He could always put a positive spin on my sometimes cynical view of things.
Please know we are thinking about Susan and the rest of the family. I will miss Mike.
