Harry William Seaton Sr., 70, of Ruffsdale, walked into the arms of Jesus on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, while surrounded by his family. Harry was born on Oct. 23, 1951, in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of the late Peter and Hattie (Truswell) Seaton. Harry's life was full of love, selflessness and dedication to others. He constantly gave of himself. Harry retired from PennDOT on Jan. 17, 2003, after 34 years of employment. Retirement just meant more time for his passion - firefighting. Harry joined East Huntingdon VFC on April 1, 1974. During his time there he held many positions including assistant chief, lieutenant, captain and safety officer. He was dedicated not only to his brother firemen but to the community. He achieved many certifications over the years as well as awards. He earned Fireman of the Year and the President's Award from his department. In March 2019, Harry was presented with a Pennsylvania House Citation for 45 years of service from state Rep. Justin Walsh. Harry was an EMT in the 1970s. He was also a member of the Westmoreland County Firemen's Association. He worked for the Southmoreland School District for 34 years as a security officer. Harry was a light to others because of his relationship with Christ Jesus. Harry attended different churches over the years but his journey began at a little church in Ruffsdale that was pastored by his father-in-law. He served as deacon there as well as other churches. He went wherever God sent him on his spiritual journey. Some of his favorite times were playing church dartball. He played for the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethern and the Mt. Pleasant Church of God. Harry never met a stranger. Everyone he met could see the light in his eyes. On Oct. 21, 1972, Harry met the love of his life, Sarah. They dated exactly two days before he proposed and she said "yes!" They were married just three months later on Jan. 20, 1973. On Jan. 20, 2023, would have been 50 years of marriage for them. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Hattie; his inlaws who were a second set of parents to him, Pastor Ralph and Dorothy Slate; his sister, Sally; his brothers-in-law, Ralph and Patsy Slate and his sister-in-law Mary Ellen. Harry is survived by his soulmate, Sarah Slate Seaton; his children, Michelle Sechrist and her husband Ken of Mt. Pleasant, Harry Seaton Jr. and his fiancé Angela Vella of Kentucky and Annie Seaton and her fiancé Gary Heller of Ruffsdale. Harry never considered Gary, Ken and Angela in-laws, they were his kids, too. Harry is also survived by his grandkids, Kenny and Micheala Sechrist of Mt. Pleasant, Violet Vella and Delilah Seaton of Kentucky, Isabella Seaton of Ruffsdale and Gary Heller Jr. of Tarrs. Harry also leaves behind his sister, Cindy Wareham of Jeanette; his sister-in-law, Nancy Slate of Scottdale and several nieces and nephews including his nephew, Ralph Slate Jr. who was more like a brother to him and special friend Carol Husband of Hunker. Harry's life was full of many things but the theme always revolved around love. The family wants to send a special thank you to the nurses at Excela Frick on the third floor. Your compassion and care to Harry and family will not be forgotten and thank you to special caregivers, Rodney and Jackie from Excela Home Health for loving Harry and taking care of him. Family and friends were received Tuesday in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ron Ingelido officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Tarrs. My Condolences. I worked on Harry's Penn Dot crew many years ago, as a summer college student employee. Harry was so kind to all of us and made us feel safe, out there on the road crew.
