Sara Elizabeth Byrne, 93, passed away July 31, 2022, in Emmett, Idaho, of COVID-19 after a four year battle with dementia. She was born on the Mc- Farland farm in rural Everett, Pa., July 27, 1929.
Sara grew up in Connellsville, but would go back to the farm almost every summer to be with her cousin, Jane and her uncle, Dan. She grew up during the depression and had to walk the neighborhood streets selling cakes and cookies that her mother had baked. She graduated from Connellsville High School in 1947. Shortly after graduation, she worked at the local Anchor Hocking glass factory where an accident with a machine only took her dress.
In the evening, she loved to roller skate at Steiner's Roller Rink. There she met the man of her dreams, James Byrne, and the rest is history. They dated and decided to marry. Jim left for California to find a job and a home then Sara took the Greyhound bus and they met and married in Las Vegas, Nev. on Aug. 12, 1951. Sara had three children, Thomas in 1952, Joyce in 1954 and Karen in 1964.
Sara and Jim lived in the same house their whole married life of 67 great years. In their later years, they would walk together, usually covering five miles. People would call the kids saying they saw their mom and dad walking and always holding hands. After Jim died in 2018 Sara came to Idaho to live with her favorite son, Tom, in Emmett, Idaho. It brought her mind back to the farm of her youth. She will be missed until we meet again.
