Joseph P. Connell Sr., 87, of Dunbar, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown.
He was born Oct. 19, 1933, in Filbert, a son of the late William C. and Coletta (Callahan) Connell. He graduated in from Dunbar Township High School in the Class of 1952. For over 40 years, Joe worked at Anchor Hocking Glass up until his retirement. He was a very active member of St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Dunbar, the church choir of St. Aloysius and Immaculate Conception, and the Altar Rosary Society of St. Aloysius. In addition to his activities at St. Aloysius and Immaculate Conception, he also volunteered on the church festival planning committee.
He served as past president of the Connellsville High School Track Parent's Club, and he was a member of the Connellsville Senior Tigers and TOPS.
Joe was known by many, and was always seen all over town, and he also sang at numerous weddings and funerals. Joe is survived by his children, Cheryle O'Connell and husband Jack of Mt. Pleasant, Joseph P. Connell Jr. of Dunbar, and John D. Connell of Dunbar; grandchildren, Carla Shultz of Ohio, Keneth Shultz and wife Bobbi Jane of Mt. Pleasant, Leslie Shultz-Drury of Mt. Pleasant, Julie L. Shultz of Connellsville, Shannon Swiger and husband Dr. Kristopher Swiger of North Carolina, Zachary Connell and wife Katie of NC, Marissa A. Connell of North Carolina, Megan Giles and husband Jeremy of Pennsylvania, Emily Connell of Pennsylvania, and Jeffrey Connell Jr. of Pennsylvania; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Jerome D. Connell and wife Renee of Dunbar and David Connell of Illinois.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Michael Connell; sister, Catherine Basinger and brothers, William C. Connell, Jr. and John T. Connell.
Family and friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME INC., 418 N. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, PA 15425 on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with the recitation of the Rosary at 3 p.m. with the St. Aloysius Altar Rosary Society and on Saturday from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be held.
The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Dunbar, with Rev. Fr. Paul Lisik as Celebrant. Committal will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Dunbar.

Dad, Since you have left us, we have a noticible hole in our lives that only you could fill. We miss you so very much it hurts.
