Lawrence Herzog

1962 - 2022

Lawrence (Larry) John Herzog passed away on Sunday August 7, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully in Rhinebeck, New York, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on June 7, 1962 in Kingston to Charles Edward and Teresa Rose Herzog. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Melinda Jeanne Herzog, sons Spencer Elliot Herzog and Avery Clark Herzog, and Avery’s fiancé, Lauren Marie Taiclet. Also surviving are his mother Teresa Herzog and sisters Donna Newkirk (Pat Guariglia), Cindy Wilson (Chris Wilson) and Leslie Morgan (Tim Morgan), his brother Cory Herzog, his father-in-law Albert Maggiore, and brothers and sisters in-law Sharon Maggiore (Joan Tenchar), Steven Maggiore (Kelly Maggiore), and David Maggiore (Kathie Maggiore), along with several nieces and nephews. His father Charles Herzog and mother-in-law Jeanne Maggiore predeceased him. Through his ambition and many talents, Larry built an exemplary career as an owner of Stage 1 Automotive. He and his business partner, Ed Fetzer, founded Stage 1 in 1985. The business has expanded tremendously in its 37 years with a close network of employees and loyal customers, while being actively engaged in service in the greater community. Larry truly enjoyed his role as a businessman and went above and beyond for many customers, even bringing chicken soup to them when they were ill. His kindness and caring nature had no bounds, forever devoted to his family and friends. He had a passion for entertaining and cooking for those he loved and was an avid culinary learner. Larry was also a proud lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating and was a commercial shad fisherman for several years; he treasured his many hunting and fishing friends. He was a great observer of the incredible world around him, and he delighted in sharing his knowledge with everyone. His life was made up of the countless stories he lived and told. No day was ordinary with Larry but rather filled with surprises and fun. He loved a good joke or prank and made many quirky YouTube videos. Larry lived a life of strength, adventure, curiosity, and kindness, and inspired these qualities in those lucky enough to know and love him. Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Friday August 12, 2022 from 4pm to 7:30pm with the funeral service taking place at 7:30pm. Face coverings are required to attend the visitation and service.
