Timothy Barcone Obituary

Timothy Henry Barcone Westkill-Timothy Henry Barcone, 61, from West Kill, N.Y. and Barcone's Music - Kingston, died unexpectedly on June 10, 2013. A husband, a father, a grand-father, and a friend. A mentor, a leader, a CEO of many start-up businesses. Dad was married for almost 42 years to Janice, the true love of his life. He is the husband of all husbands. He and Janice shared a love that only a few couples ever experience. Their marriage, their life together, is one we all strive for and hope to have. Dad's passion was music repair. The 4th generation in the Music business, he didn't just repair instruments, but rather gave a piece of himself to each instrument he fixed. He helped and touched so many people's lives. Often people would come into the store for minor repair work and he never would charge them for it. He knew how important a person's instrument was to them and he treated it like his own. No matter how busy he was, he always made time for an emergency repair or when anyone needed his help. One of his nick names was the Wizard, because he made magic with music repair. Dad worked hard for his family. His work ethic set an example for all of us and he instilled the value of hard work and the rewards that come with it. He loved his children and they were his world to him. He coached little league and was a member of the Barcone's Music bowling team. He leaves behind a family that he cherished and he will always be a part of their lives. Dad loved the mountains in West Kill and the seashore on Cape Cod. He and Janice built their dream home in the mountains and their home was always the place where his family would gather on holidays and special occasions. Family was the most important thing to him. Nothing made him happier than when he was with his family. He was so proud of them all. A life long Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he rarely ever missed a game. He loved the Band, and good Jazz music. A musician himself, he played the tenor and baritone sax. Dad recently started to expand his business on to Cape Cod. Not one for sitting still, he was always looking for new opportunities and was never afraid to take risks or take on new challenges. A business man, a visionary, he could solve any problem and he could see what so many of us could not. Dad was such a good friend to so many people. He was someone we could turn to for advice, or if we needed to figure out a problem, he would somehow always have the right answer. He was so skilled with his hands. He could fix everything and build anything. If only he could fix our broken hearts. We are blessed to have had him, we only wish we could have him for a little longer. Tim was born June 30, 1951 in Kingston, son of the late Ben and Mira Lee Kelly Barcone. He was a native and life long resident who graduated from the Onteora High School in 1969. Tim was 4th generation of the Barcone Family who represented the integrity of the Barcone tradition, of top quality music and instrument services . He started as a repairman for his Dad at Empire Music from 1965 to 1971, before starting Barcone Music, which has been at the 528 Broadway Kingston location since 1995. He was the principle repairman for many professional musicians including Howard Johnson, Dave Sanborn, Van Morrison, Jack DiJionette, and many more. It was Tim's father Ben Barcone who started the music program at Onteora Schools. Surviving are his wife Janice Davis Barcone, two sons: Tim Jr. and Anna Barcone of Kerhonkson and Michael and his fiance Colleen Kortendick of Spruceton, two daughters Melissa Barcone McHugh and her husband John of Shokan, and Elizabeth Randolf and her husband John of Spruceton. Eight grandchildren: Brian, Isabella, Olivia, Rosalie, Benjamin, Joseph, Jackson, and Morgan. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother Peter Barcone in 2002. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Tim will be on Sunday June 23, at 2 p.m., at the Spruceton Church Westkill. Friends will be received for a memorial visitation on Saturday June 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. The family suggest memorial contributions may be made to the Ulster County Music Education Assn. c/o Barcone Music 528 Broadway, Kingston 12401, or the Westkill Community Hall c/o POB 5 Westkill 12492. In the obit,I was never mentioned, I am Tim“s Aunt Elaine, Also Tim had an Uncle his name was Eugene, I also did the ancestry and Tim is the 5th generation
I bowled with Tim And Janice under Barcones Music, When he was able to bowl say around twelve or so I would take him bowling, he liked it a lot. I miss seeing him at the music store, and cannot believe that the whole family is gone, just like that. Since the passing of Tim I have lost my brother Eugene. Now I am the only Barcone. Living from the original family. My grand nephew Michael who owns the brewery, he is my godchild and I visit the brewery now and then and have many memories of my childhood and all my family members, I miss you Tim and will keep you in my thoughts Love Aunt Elaine

Dear Jan
I too was stunned to hear of Tim's sudden death.
I well remember all the times he let me work in his shop years ago. I learned so much about instrument repair with Tim; he was so generous with his time and resources.
Even though I don't live close by, I will miss Tim.

Dear Jan and all your family,
On behalf of all in the Bruderhof communities, and especially those of us who knew Tim, please accept our condolences. As the community member who knew Tim for the longest time (we graduated from Onteora together in 1969), the news of his unexpected death left me stunned. I had been living in England for many years, and after returning to the US earlier this year, I gave him a call. That was such a great phone call; he was as warm as I have always known him. At the end we said "We have to get together soon!" I wish I'd come up right away. I will always remember him, and we really do wish you God's peace.

Dear Janice and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will always remember Tim and all of you and the help that you gave me.
Tim and I met when I was a student at Onteora High School. He offered me a job working for him when the store and house were on Rt. 213.
It is truly a family business, with family members stopping by throughout the day. Gretchen the dog romping around, Janice's mom stopping by, Aunt Millie visiting from next door... Elizabeth may have played us her first violin recital in Tim's shop with mom Janice learning as well.
When Tim learned I would be attending SUNY Fredonia in the fall of 1978 as a music major, he allowed me to buy a brand new Yamaha euphonium from him at the lowest price he could get, and make payments throughout the summer. He was as thrilled as I was when I made the last payment and he took it from its "hiding spot" and watched me open it. Wow!
That's how Tim was, helping others, rooting for them. It was a joy to work with him and his family. We had lots of laughs while working together, and those delicious dinners Janice would invite me over for, I will always remember. My apologies to Jan for getting so silly with Tim at dinners. He was a hoot!
After I graduated from Fredonia, I was substitute teaching in NJ while I looked for a band director's position. It was mid school year and nothing was panning out. I received a phone call one day from Tim who searched me out through various people and told me of a job opening in Port Jervis. He made an effort to find me, since I was miles from my home town and living with friends. Wow again! Because of Tim's efforts on my behalf, I was offered the position and taught instrumental music at Port Jervis from 1985-1998. His expert skills as a repairman helped me a lot during my teaching in fixing my students' instruments.
These words cannot possibly express my deep gratitude to Tim and his family, but I will always remember his kindness and give to others in the same way that Tim and his family gave to me.
I'm thinking of you all at this difficult time and am sorry that you have lost such a fine man.

All I can say is there must be a lot of musical instruments in heaven that are need of repair for the good lord to take such a good man this early in life. I feel honored to have known Tim, have played ball with him, have competed in bowling against him and shared talking football and cars with him. What a great man and a great loss.

I knew Tim when he was just starting his business and saw him grow into a successful business man and proud father who often took little Tim around on his weekly trips to area schools. He always had time to listen and was a major influence in expanding my instrumental program. His loss will be long remembered by those who knew him in the music community. He was just an all around nice guy who we lost far to soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to Janice and all of the family.
