ANTHONY PECORA Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Pecora, 95, at rest Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Tony was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Filippo and Santa Pecora. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Tony's work career began at ALCO where he worked as a foreman. He was later employed as a foreman with the General Electric Co. retiring in 1979, after many years of service. In between, Tony built a home for his family. Tony was strongly committed to his family and was recognized by many in the community as the "ultimate gentleman." Tony kept very active during his life and was known by many within the community. He was a member of both the Schenectady and later the Rotterdam Elks Lodges for almost 50 years, and received the Elk of the Year award. For over 80 years, Tony was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Most notably, he sang in the church choir and at many weddings. Tony also performed professionally as a singer at various locations and functions, traveling extensively as a solo vocalist. Tony was an avid bowler and golfer. Most recently, he served as president of the ALCO 25 Year Club for many years. Tony was the beloved husband of 70 years to Mary Pecora; beloved father of William (Karen) Pecora of Tampa, Florida, Kathleen (James) Beswick of Glenville. He was the loving grandfather of Veronica Beswick and her husband, Matthew Ross of Albany and Theresa Beswick of Durham, North Carolina; great-grandfather of Lorelai Beswick-Ross; brother of the late Sylvester, Joseph and Bruno Pecora. Tony is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Friday, January 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin Saturday, 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
