Carolyn Forkas Obituary
Betsy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her house was always open to her children's friends. She loved knitting, and was famous for the colorful beanies she made for family and friends.
Betsy was born and raised in Schenectady, and remained there her entire life. She was an active member of many community organizations, working and volunteering for the Girl Scouts her entire life and serving on the Board of the Schenectady Business and Professional Women's Club.
Betsy will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children Will (Elizabeth Skane) Wheeler, Sue (Joe) Jacob, and Jim Wheeler; her loving grandchildren Alex, Wilson, and Ellis; many nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend of over 70 years Patricia A. "Poppy" Roesch. She was predeceased by her parents James "Pa" and Helen "Ma" Forkas, and her siblings Jim and Donald "Butch" Forkas.
The family extends their deepest, heartfelt thanks to the staff on Mohawk Trail at the Glendale Home who cared for Betsy during her final years.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Betsy's memory to https://www.girlscoutsneny.org/en/support-us.html or https://act.alz.org.

Belated condolences for the loss of Betsy Forkas. I too was a member of the compuserve women's forum, and through that Betsy´s influence remains through its members and their connections. After a meeting in Boston, on her way home, Betsy took the time to stop by in Sudbury to meet up with me face to face, that meant a lot and I´ve never forgotten that nice hello!

Betsy was instrumental in the Compuserve Women's Forum, where many of us made lifelong friends. Her life was well lived in so many ways.

Hello Sue, I am sure you don't remember me, but we met through Betsy when you worked at the Gap in Cambridge MA in the mid 1990's. Betsy was a leader in a Compuserve Women's forum that I was a member of. Anyway I just read of her death, and I want to convey my deepest sympathies. She was a very interesting and special person.
I am a member of a small Facebook group made up of a few folks who met on Compuserve at that time ("Goddess Garden"). Betsy was in the FB group too until she became unwell. We've all been talking about her, remembering her with much fondness and respect. We are all so sorry for your family´s loss.
