Catherine Provost Obituary

Catherine Elizabeth (Weinlein) Provost, 86, of Schenectady is at peace, entering eternal life from Our Lady of Hope Residence on August 24th after a long illness. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Whitmyer) Weinlein. She was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and St. Peter's School of Nursing. Kay resided in Albany for most of her life and was especially proud of her military service in England during World War II as a first lieutenant in the Women's Army Nurse Corps. She was a communicant and active member of St. Teresa of Avila parish in Albany and more recently an active member of St. John the Evangelist parish in Schenectady. Kay was a registered nurse who worked tirelessly at St. Peter's Hospital and the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Albany. Kay leaves behind a grateful family who benefited enormously from her faithful loving care, her strong work ethic and her forthright example of honesty and loyalty. She is survived by her son, Rev. John Provost of Averill Park, NY; her son, Richard (Mary) Provost of Niskayuna, NY; her son, Thomas (Deborah) Provost of Niskayuna, NY; her daughter, Dr. Michelle Provost-Craig of Newark, Delaware; and her son, Robert (Pamela) Provost of Pittstown, NY. She was the loving sister of Charles Weinlein of Colonie, NY; Alfonso Weinlein of Poughkeepsie, NY and the late Sister Mary Annette Weinlein RSM. Kay was very proud of her grandchildren, Jennifer (Frank) Donaghue, Richard (Tierney) Provost, Mary Allison Provost, Elizabeth (Brent Berggren) Provost, Olivia (Joseph) Dirig, Graham (Deborah Willig) Provost, James Provost, Dana Provost, Robert Craig, Catherine Anne Provost, Anneliese Provost, Julianna Provost and Alexandra Provost. She took delight in her great-grandchildren, Noah and Emily Provost, Aiden and Addison Provost, Jack Dirig and Christian Provost. Also surviving are many cherished nieces and nephews. Our deepest appreciation to the Little Sisters of the Poor, nurses, aides and entire staff for the reverential care they extended to Mom in her final residence at Our Lady of Hope. Our thanks to all of the "angels" over the years who helped guide Kay and her family through her illness with compassion, grace and strength. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12110. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately by the family on Friday with the community of Our Lady of Hope Residence in their chapel. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to Our Lady of Hope Residence, Latham.

To The Provost Family,

My family was so sorry to hear of your loss. A mother is a VERY solid figure in a family, at this point I can't even fathom your loss. Your Mom was a very good friend of ours, Mary Glenning. Jane Tyrell called my Mom today about your Mom. The alumni from SPH nursing were very close. In reading your Mom's obit about her love of nursing and being a proud WWII nurse, I told my Mom that sounded just like someone else I knew, and she knew I was talking about her. They were a tight group. You are in our prayers.

"May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you
In the palm of his hand."

Fr. John and Family,

My mother called me at work yesterday to notify me of Kay's passing. Living in the Washington DC area, I often visit Arlington Cemetary with visitors and sometimes just by myself. One of the "must see" memorials, is the "Women in the Military Memorial". My visits will be extra special because I feel honored to say that I knew "Lieutenant Kay"...she will be remembered at this beautiful memorial and in our hearts forever.

The entire Acker family have you in our thoughts and prayers.
